I spent 3 hours round trip to go to the social security office nearest me. When I got there I was told that they are by appointment only and their appointments are about 2 weeks out. Which would be fine, but nowhere on their website nor on Google does it say that it is by appointment only. I arrived before they opened, and was in the parking lot for an hour after opening trying to figure out how to resolve my issue with a phone call. And in the time I was in the parking lot they did not have one customer enter the building. Making me question as to why I couldn't be helped. There were no cars in the parking lot, other than the two people in my situation which they didn't know they needed an appointment. It seems kind of odd to me that it is not posted clearly on the social security website that they are by appointment only. Nor is Google listing them as by appointment only like they do with multiples of other businesses. Severely inconvenient. A total waste of time money and gas.

I been trying to get ahold of Social Security for the last 4days re my 92 year old disable mother SSI benefits to get a busy signal because the phones are down. When I finally got ahold of them, to give them our new number, then waited for my schedule phone interview at 11 which never happen so still trying to get ahold of this agent. Why would you want to mess with a 92 year disable woman anyways.

Today I will be contacting Wisconsin bar due to their unlawful tampering with my Social Security documents. Last night after coming home from surgery I received mail stating that they were cutting my funds in half due to an increase in my wages. I'm disabled and I have been unable to work for the last decade. I hope they brought Lube.

Whoever i talked to via phone was a real piece of work. Told me I cannot make an appointment to fix my sons ss card. Told me I have to mail original copies of stuff that could easily be stolen and someone could easily steal my identity with. Or my sons. I asked if I could make copies of the items and send that and they told me no. So I asked what would happen if they lost this stuff. Her response was id have to get new ones. I asked if they lost it would I have to pay for the replacement. She responded yes. If you need documents like birth certificates and i.d.s for this then shouldn't you be able to make an appointment?

If you need a new SS card be prepared to surrender your original ID documents. I could not upload my DL via the SS website as it refused to accept the photo. Entering the DL# and a credit card failed as well when it refused to accept my entered numbers. My DL expires in 10 days due to the state holding back the final copy and me being able to produce a less than mangled SS card I've had for probably 40 years. The SS office wants me to mail a current DL but by the time they get it the paper print out will be expired and it would be considered a copy anyways even though it's the original temp license the state printed out. So, you can't get the new secure DL without a SS card and you can't get a SS card without a DL. A passport will work if you feel good about mailing a $150 document to total strangers, an experience I had once where the passport was never returned and I had to get a new one. In short, to get an SS card you need: 1) A current driver's license/state/passport and must mail those items in if the SS website fails to be able your record your current ID (which is quite possible for a variety of reasons, not the least which is the quality of the photo).

The people handling my name change lost my birth cetificate and then saidwell, you can replace itwhen I asked if they could at least try looking for it. There was no apology for even losing the document in the first place. It's now been over a week since they told me my marriage certificate had been sent to me and when I called to ask if they could check if it was marked asdelivered(I haven't received it yet) they told me they don't track the mail once it leaves them and that I would just have to keep waiting. They don't seem to care that they're sending important documents through the mail. I'm not sure who to ask for help at this point.

I drove 60 miles to go to this office instead of the one that was only a half hour away. This office is clean, efficient, and not crowded. I was in and out within 15 minutes. My alternative was Minneapolis, where I've been told the wait in line is 3 hours. Well done, Eau Claire!

Wow! I was definitely impressed with the folks in here! I got married, so I came in to change my last name on my SS card. Everyone was extremely polite and helpful. We had barely taken our seats when we were called up to the window. We were inside less than 10 minutes all together!
