I had a great experience with this office. Yes, you have to wait until someone answers the phone, it took about 20 minutes. Person on the other end was very pleasant to speak with. I had to wait about one and a half weeks for someone else to call me back to schedule, but the appointment was right the next day after the phone call. Also a very nice lady on the phone. The experience at the office was quick and the employee was very helpful. My husband and I came in for updates on citizenship and name change.nSo overall the experience was great.

My experience at this place was flawless right from making a call for appointment to service at appointment itself.nnWhen I called for appointment I was told that someone will call me for it. It took some time but I did got a call and appointment was next day. When I reached, the person serving me at the counter made it happen quickly.nnI think a lot of the complaints I see here is because of Covid. We all are trying our best to survive it.

I have a court order for my daughter's name change and I have been calling for months to try to speak with someone and schedule an appointment and I ALWAYS get hung up on. I have yet to reach an agent to speak to. If we had not recently moved I would still be able to go to the Reston location which is amazing. They always answer their phones and are so helpful, but sadly because of my zip code are unable to assist me with the changes. I am not sure what to do at this point.

If i could give them zero stars I would. I have spent 9 months calling this office to clear up social securities' mistake for reporting that my elderly mother had died, when she had not. They never answer the phone and only after numerous messages left, do they finally call back. I have been told over and over that my mom will start to receive her monthly SS check, and I receive letters in the mail stating this, but the checks never come. Now they have mistakely reported that her Medicare has been canceled. These people have created this huge problem and yet no one can solve it. My mom is about to run out of money, and they won't even call me back. Very incompetent! This has been the biggest nightmare.

I was trying to make an appointment for one of our employees for an EIN number. Waited on the line approximately 23 minutes. All I heard were ring tones and what sounded like someone was about to pick up. All of a sudden the phone line disconnected. Terrible service. I now understand what all the bad reviews are about. Management needs to take a SERIOUS look at all the bad comments. If I allowed the phones to ring that many times and kept a client on hold, I'd be fired!! At my office I always pick up the calls on the first ring and always keep my word as to when they will receive a call back if I'm on another line with a client. They should send their employees to me for phone etiquette training. They could learn a lot!!!

This is the worst SSA office I've ever dealt with. Their incompetence has quite literally cost me money. Now they are costing me time as well as I attempt over the course of days to get through to them, get an actual human to answer the phone who does not immediately disconnect the line rather than answering it. I have sent faxes and letters via FedEx. I have receipts proving they received my communications but they simply do not act upon them. Nor do they make any effort to contact me and follow-up. My efforts disappear into the void of gross incompetence and negligence of duty.

Terrible. I have been trying to call them for over a week, multiple times a day. Always put on hold and usually no one picks up. If someone does pick up, they hang up before I can respond.nnUpdate 2022/03/22 -- I raised the rating to two because once you actually get a hold of someone, the process became a lot better. The lady that finally answered my call was very polite and knowledgeable. I had to go in to finalize the process. They called me back a couple of weeks later to schedule a meeting to submit my documentation that also went very smoothly.

I dreaded going to the S.S Office as I had only heard terrible things about the Manassas Office. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and was relieved when there was no line outside as I have often seen. I was greeted and directed to a registration machine upon entering the building. My wait time was about a half an hour and the staff member helping me with my concern worked quickly and professionally. It was a very good experience, and my concern was handed promptly. I was in and out in less than an hour.

If I can put 0 with this office I will, I call to make appointment and after 15 minutes someone pick up the phone, but very unprofessional and very rude doesnu2019t allowed me to talk. After getting my info and putting me on hold for another 10 minutes and getting my info again and make me wait for another 10 minutes to just say to me that the manager will call me back to give me appointment. Iu2019m so flabbergasted that they couldnu2019t even make appointment for you and that need the manager do it, itu2019s beyond ridiculous that as simple as making appointment they canu2019t do it. Very rude they shush you couldnu2019t even talk and ask questions. Our government employs the laziest and rudest people to deal with the citizens who pays taxes.

Awful service. Nil response. Needs better staff and more staffnnI applied SSN for my son for which they needed my original passport to be sent over. So I wanted to check them the status of my application as It has my original passport, and status can be checked only via phone.nnI call them daily, the response is either call us some other time and else it will drop off for no reason.nnBecause of covid, no in-person visit is allowed unless it is sooper urgent. understandable. But atleast please fix the phone line and provide us transparent service.

My sons father recently passed so I had to apply for survivor benefits. Itu2019s hard enough grieving and having to file and deal with paperwork but I waited months for a interview and finally got it to be given the wrong information. The rep that took my application mis-informed me of a lot. I still have yet to receive a payment or even a back payment thatu2019s owed from Oct-Dec. Then I was told my application was sent to another state , then a different rep told me it hadnu2019t been sent yet after I was told it had and now I have to wait until next Friday for it to even be sent over. So nothing has been processed at all. This agency is terrible and needs to be investigated! I am a single mom and loss my sons father and now loss my child support income. Then the lady on the phone laughed like it was a joke. Idk who this agency has to answer to but I will definitely find out and be filing a formal complaint!

If I could go ahead and give 0 stars I would, I called for a WHOLE WEEK and NEVER got a hold of anyone, I understand lines are busy etc, but every time I was put in hold they would hung up on me or the call would get disconnected. When someone finally pick up one of the numerous calls I made, first of all very rude, treating me like I was dumb, being very impatient, when all I just need it was to make an appointment to go into the office, THAT WAS ALL instead of him explaining the situation to me just told me I needed to wait 10 days for someone to contact me to schedule a simple appointment. It was the worst experience of all.

All you need to do is have some patience with SSA office. If they say, they will call you in 3-4 weeks, just wait 6-8 weeks and you will get a call for appointment. It took me long wait on the calls and 6 weeks to get a call back but once I was in the office, the staff member were really nice and processed my application quickly. It might depend on who you meet but my experience was good.

After on line medicare application, I was asked to submit my naturalization cergificate - original. There is no mailing address on the web page. I called to Manassas office because it is the closest one from my home to find out the mailing address. Machine picked up the call, with which I spent nearly half an hour. I kept looking for real person to talk. But, after a couple of switching around, the machine asked me to call again because everyone is busy and hang up.

Update: Now that you can visit the office again as a walk-in, the service is WORLDS better. I was in and out within an hour and the people working there were very kind. If you come prepared, it will be a quick and efficient visit.nnNot only can you not visit this office unless you have an appointment, but you cannot get ANYONE to answer the phones either. I have been calling this office multiple times a day during business hours for 2 weeks now and still have yet to get anyone on the phone to ask about status of my documents that were sent in over 2 months ago now. Absolutely ridiculous.

Wow. I have NEVER been spoken to in the manner I was today by the staff member with the last name GREY. The absolute rudest human I have ever delt with in years. Refused to let me talk. Continually talked over me. Didnu2019t let me ask questions. The phone was on speaker and she started getting so aggressive that my 2 year old was crying and had to take it off speaker. I donu2019t understand how there is someone of this nature still employed here. Told me to call her manager and hung up. I would have loved talking to a manager but seeing that it took 2 weeks to even get ahold of someone at the office and ended with her hanging up on me, I doubt Iu2019ll get ahold of anyone in the near future. This office is a joke. Do better.

Honestly - how bad could it be when the office is run by appointments right? You would Think they could at least honor the appointment and get you in on time, but no. After an hour drive in traffic to get there early, they were still late. Did they care? Nope - earned 3 star as the lady who eventually helped me was very nice.

The Manassas Social Security office has been closed for general business and hasn't been picking up their phones for months and are making recipients suffer. It is not a matter of waiting in the queue, because after a period of time the call just disconnects. The national SS service number said that only the local office can help my situation and gave me the extension of a supervisor in the Manassas office. Dialing her extension just disconnects as well with no opportunity to leave a message.nI suggest that everyone write to their congressmen to have them look into this.
    Sharon Howington
Manassas social security NEVER answers their phone and then it hangs up on you after you select to continue your call after you go in and out on hold. The worst service ever, the quit for the day while there are calls in the queue. You all need to be FIRED.

Called up for an appointment and even the customer service agent was so rude!! she treats you like she's doing a huge favor to you...as if you're a refugee (so what even if you are!) and doesn't even let you speak and tell your concern properly. The supervisors should take a note and train their customer service agents better.

I went around 2:00 and waited in the line for a little under 30 minutes, got my number and sat for another 30 minutes. Once I got to the window I was done in under 10 minutes! It was a good experience over all.

Office supposedly is taking phone calls only - no office appointments. Unfortunately, they don't actually take calls either. After you wait on line for an extended period, they drop your call. Updated information - they do not respond to letters either. I have one pending for 6 months. Is anyone actually working in this office?

The hardest working and most under appreciated employees on the planet. These folks are dedicated people but they are terribly understaffed. The workloads are staggering and the expectations are unrealistic. They take a beating from the public everyday. Please be nice to them when you callu2026they are more than willing to help. You get more bees w honey, you knowu2026.

I have been calling this office since September, in general, I have called more than 100 times and no one has ever answered they just make you wait and then hang up, I came there personally, but they do not let people in without appointments , and they say that I should make an appointment by phone, but they do not pick up the phone, so I donu2019t understand how I should schedule my visit, they need to hire more people or have someone answer the phone at that office, I called the office in Reston and the employees there answer the calls but they cannot help because mine address refers to the office in Manessas. minus 10 starts to this place

I have never experienced such bad service as I have with this office. One star is too much. There is no excuse for lazy. My claim hasnu2019t been processed since October and I have called for the last past several months and no one even seems to know anything. The wait to get a call through is long enough. I canu2019t say enough about how bad the service is here.

If I could provide 0 stars, I would. I mailed in my documents to change my name following a divorce that was finalized in July 2021. Itu2019s now October 2021 and I have yet to receive a new social security card. Each time I call, and thatu2019s IF I can get through, Iu2019m told that my information is still u201cprocessingu201d. Most times, when I do call, the line doesnu2019t even go through and I cannot even speak to someone. When I do get the chance to talk to someone, Iu2019m given very little answers about my paperwork. Very unhelpful. The staff are often rude to me. I only went through this particular office for proximity to me. I wish I would have gone to another office that would be more helpful.

I've never been more disappointed with any service before and that includes the DMV and i wasn't the one dealing with these lazy supervisors at this location, my boyfriend was. He called them at least 10 times in a month and a half just wanting his ID back and no one could give him any answers about anything, not even his ID. He simply needed his SS along with his ID for work purposes but still can not even get his ID back so he can catch a flight. Don't try and talk to a supervisor because they will not call you back or communicate with you what so ever. These people act as if we work for them instead of them working for us. Do not go to or send anything to this location because you'll only be made to wait for the full 2 months and no one will ever contact you.

I've called this office 4 times now. 3 staff members are very nice and helpful. The Spanish lady that answered the phone today is very rude. She didn't want to hear my questions or concerns. She just quickly gave me a rude tone and blamed everything on Baltimore post office. And when I tried to ask my questions she talked over me placing blame on them and then hung up on me telling me to call back later. I guess she just didn't want to be bothered today. Wasted my time on hold to hear about things I didn't ask about and then get hung up on when I try to get my question out. She needs to try to listen and not assume before speaking.

This office is ridiculous!!!! I sent in original copies of my divorce papers and my original passport to receive a name change in Sept 2021. My application did not get processed until Nov 2021 and then a week later I received my card! WITHOUT my original documents!nThey lost my original copy to resume to my maiden name and lost my BRAND NEW passport, now i have to spend $70 to get a replacement?!?!?!nThank you Manassas SS office!!!!!! Unprofessional!!!!!!

I had inherited a debt from one of my parents and spent MONTHS trying to get a fix for this. Finally after this extensive period, I was sent a form to fill out to see if my parents debt could beforgivensince I'm considered the offender... - KEEP IN MIND I WAS 7 YEARS OLD WHEN THIS HAPPENED. It's been a year now. Not a single update - every call deferred or phone lines turned off. I've called surrounding offices and they've all told me that Manassas is where documents go to die. Still waiting for this to be resolved ~1 year later.
