I got married in April and based on the reviews of this office, I was concerned about getting my name change in time for my DMV appointment in June. I was also extremely concerned to send my license, birth certificate, and marriage certificate by mail since the offices are closed for COVID. I sent my documents in on a Monday, got them back less than a week later, and got my new SS card less than 2 weeks from when I mailed them in. I'm extremely impressed with how quickly Harrisonburg SS handled this!!

I have called Harrisonburg SS office several times regarding retun of documents this week. I have called them at least five times to get the tracking number of my documents. There is a guy answeres the calls who is rude, unprofessional, and unhelpful. My documents have been sitting at USPS office for over a week but this guy was refusing to give me the tracking number. Instead, he was telling me to be patient and was closing the call on me.a lady finally helped me today with the tracking number today.

It seemed to be good at first- estimates half hour wait, but was actually an hour. Not even complaining about that part compared to how the DMV can be sometimes. However, I was their to change my last name due to marriage and it does not state online (under documents needed) that you need to know both of your parentsu2019 SSN numbers too, so you end up trying to frantically get a hold of your parents while theyu2019re at work. However I got it done.nnHereu2019s my complaint- they told me I was done and clear to go to the DMV to change my name, only to actually go to the DMV and find out (after waiting in line) that they didnu2019t get it uploaded at this SSN office so it was not clear to change. Now I have to come back and wait at the DMV AGAIN later this week since the SSN people donu2019t know their job!!!

You will literally be on hold until the end of time. No matter what time of day you call, no one ever seems to answer the phone. Like, How busy can you possibly be in the morning. And going down there is a forever wait. So, upsetting but they could careless. Worse than DMV, atleast they pick the phone up.

I would leave zero stars if it would let me, but I will give it 1 just so I can let those who have a loved one with a disability know the discrimination they will receive if they have to interact with certain employees at this agency. If you have to come here, be aware that they do not work on behalf of individuals with disabilities. Do not let your loved ones who are unable to advocate for themselves come here without assistance.

I have called many times, waited on hold, only to have someone put me on hold again and send me to the national hotline or to the survey at the end. I have spoken to a few that have no idea what they're doing and some who do. I sent in a $600 DNA test to prove that the father of my oldest is also the father of the youngest. The test was 99.7% a match, which I knew to begin with. I have been waiting 4 months. I love how it's okay for them to take their sweet ass time because it's not their lives that are being hindered. Heaven forbid should you make them wait though.

Very brief hold. Very, very helpful. It helps to have checked online to know what youu2019re asking about and not to be demanding and rude.
