I NEVER leave bad reviewsu2026 BUT I have been trying to get my 6 month old sons Social Security Card for months! I submitted ALL of the paperwork and payment in the hospital and I still have yet to get a card. I have tried to call the national number and wait even longer and get told that there is nothing they can do other than for me to mail in the only piece of documentation (birth certificate) of my babyu2019s and hope that it gets back to me in the mail. Every time I call the local office I get hung up on or told to keep waiting after over an hour wait timesu2026 I understand that COVID is a risk but with the rest of the government agencies making accommodations and safe appointments youu2019d think the SSA would do the same. Itu2019s so upsetting to know that not a single person cares in that office. If I could give 0 stars I would.

I think during these times of covid and business operating on different hours, we find miscommunication very frustrating. I waited on the phone for 40 minutes yesterday before anyone answered. The website says the Culpeper office is open by appointment only. When the lady answered yesterday, she explained the office was UPenn as of April 7 and no appt was needed for social security card replacements. When I showed up this morning, I was met at the door by the security officer. If it wasn't for him being super helpful and extremely nice, I would've walked away upset. I was atleast able to drop documents off to start the replacement process but who knows how long it will take to get the actual replacement. LONG STORY SHORT...HERES THE UPDATE FOR THE CULPEPER OFFICE: THEY WILL NOT BE FULLY OPEN UNTIL JUNE.

What a joke. No one answers the phone for two day. Let it ring 45 minutes, 25 and 30 minutes. No one. What to drop off needed paperwork. Don't what to fax if no one working there anymore.nGuess will have to try to and fax it to a different office.nWhat a joke.

I have called the Culpeper SSA Office 7-8 times over 5 months to make an appointment and fix a problem. I have to turn in a form and show my birth certificate, which takes 2 minutes. After waiting almost an hour, either there is no answering of the phone or they hang up on me. The Alexandria Office finally told me they will contact Culpeper to make and appointment with me. No calls after 30 days and still waiting. Then, they told me to call Culpeper Office directly since they manage their appointments! Tries several times for almost an hour and the same no-response or hung up on me! I'm out of options and have to forget about getting my Medicare till I am 100 yrs.

I submitted my documents and request for a name change mid October right after getting married. I got my documents mailed back exactly a week later. I called the office at the beginning of November only to spend 30 minutes on hold before they hung up on me. I called the National number on 11/18 and they said this office u201cjust hasnu2019t done itu201d and put a request to get it done. Itu2019s November 30th and I still havenu2019t received anything so I call the National line again and get told since there was a request on the 18th, nothing can be done until 12/18. The lady told me to call the local office if I donu2019t have my card by then and get an appointment. I called Culpeperu2019s office right after to ask them for the status and was actually able to speak to someone who told me itu2019s u201cpending stillu201d and that making an appointment isnu2019t even u201can optionu201d for me since Iu2019m a citizen. Meanwhile, Iu2019ve been without health insurance since October because my husband is military and parents took me off their plan not imagining how long a new card would take. I have been waiting for this card so I can get to the dmv and then into the military system without having to do it twice when my name is changed, but at this point, it appears Iu2019ll need to do things twice since they canu2019t get my card done or allow me an appointment because Iu2019m an American citizen.

The only office in the area that does not have an official drop box and will not allow individuals to pick up sensitive documentation. Everything must be sent via USPS to and from the office, its not like USPS is having serious problems right now or anything...nnThe processing for a standard name change was stated as taking 3-6 weeks, we are now on week 9 with no estimate on when/where the request is in the system. Very reassuring.nnOh, and when I received my ORIGINAL documents back in the mail (you know the ones I had to pay to be sent in the certified a mail and entrust to the mail system) the court order was crushed inside the envelope. The envelope was not folded or crushed, meaning the court document was haphazardly thrust into the envelope without a care in the world that it was original documentation.nnZero standards

Reaching anyone at this office over the phone for anything has been impossible, no one picks up here or the nat'l line, the call either disconnects or it goes silent. Please fix your system because it's not working for the people who need it.

Word of advice take a week off make sure your phone if using cell phone is connected to a charger and pray they will pick up before your week is up or you die.

I wish I could give a negative rating; have tried to call them via phone dozens of times in the last two months and they simply don't answer. You navigate the phone system, it rings 12 or 15 times, then just cuts you off. No way to leave a message, and you can't go there in person.

I called and lady named Mary that won't give last name and wouldn't let me talk to supervisor was the most nastiest rudest customer service I've ever seen. On top of all of it she was giving me false info and even after I said mam your being kind of rude she didn't apologize instead got more rude. Then asked if for name and wouldn't give last name and asked if there's a complaint department and she said there isn't and then I said can I talk to supervisor and she said if she's available in a nasty way and said I will transfer and it just hung up! Someone like this has no buisness working customer service with social security that deals with the elderly and need to be patient and kind. Attitudes like hers makes everything that more difficult. There is no reason for it and it's disgusting. I was as polite as I could be and she repeatedly talked down to me and was so nasty. I've called in past and all others there have been very polite just this lady Mary. She also talked badly about her co worker by saying the girl prior that dealt with my situation didn't know what she was doing. You could literally here her make angry sounds when looking stuff up like she didn't want to be there and even worse when she talked down to you. So crazy and something needs to be done about this and I will be writing the commissioner and finding out who runs this specific office cause this is not ok!

Could not get hold of a person on the phone at my local office because they are short staffed. Called National number and was on hold for a while but was patient and got what I needed.

Been trying to set up an appointment for the last month. It's incredible how such office can have incompetent employees and manager.I am in need of an appointment the phone just rings and rings and you can never get a hold of the manager. Meanwhile each paycheck I'm being deducted social security benefits to pay for their salary and everybody else's retirement and disability benefits. I have left feedback to social security administration not that it would do anything but this office really needs to clean up of its staff!
    Carissa
They literally donu2019t care about you or their job. Lady talked to me like I was an illiterate child. I was yelled at and hung up on. My application has been returned to me twice , BY MAIL, of course.
    Eva Payne
If I could give zero stars I would. Rudest lady I've ever spoken to on the phone in my life. I'm sorry you hate your job. Call in if you like waiting on hold for 10 minutes just to get yelled at for asking a couple questions about a social security card. So so rude. :-(

NEVER answer the phone and your aren't allowed to visit the office, its been over a month since my papers where sent in and I got the forms back saying copies were made and I would here back soon, so apparently my ss# is just pending in purgatory now that I have gotten married. thanks.

We waited from 1:20 to 3:10 to be helped- the entire building was FILLED when we first arrived patiently waited until us and a gentleman were the only ones who weu2019re still waiting 5-6 people came in after everyone else had left. After asking the security guard why no one was being called for 40 minutes he said it was due to only certain employees being able to certain things. Turns out FIVE out of the 6 employees working went to lunch. 2 other people were still called before us. Never coming to this location again (the lady who handled my replacement was very very nice and polite)

Wanting to avoid the Fairfax office where my husband waited 2 hours outside and 1.5 hours inside, I went to the Culpepper Office. I waited 1.5 hours inside. The employee that helped me was kind, patient and helpful. She said there were only 3 employees that work at that office and wait time has increased since folks are avoiding the Fairfax and Manassas SS Officies. I arrived at 12 noon, so, I am guessing, the employees took turns with lunch which may have added to the wait time. One issue that arrises is trying to make an appointment. She said, one of my issues, would need an appointment but SS only makes appointments 60 days out. After checking the Fairfax Office where I would need to go, all the appointments were taken and she would put my name on a waiting list. Now I am hoping and praying I will get called or emailed when an appointment opens. I was able to sign up for SS for myself on the website at home that appeared to be easy.

Very slow service in office.nThe lady who answers the phone almost every time I call (and actually manage to get through) is incredibly rude and unprofessional. She answers the phone like she's about to rip your head and then before you can manage to get out your first sentence claims you have an attitude problem. The first time she did this to me I was so taken aback I was speechless. She also routinely hangs up on people (I know this because other people I know have had the same experiences with her.) She really needs to find a new job if she is so unhappy with what she does now. She does not pass along faxes and other info like she is supposed to (as I have called to confirm faxes and mail I have sent in, have been told by her she got it and would pass it along to the worker. Then only to turn around later to get a call or mail from the worker that something hasn't been sent in!) I think this office needs retraining with customer service skills and possibly for her anger management courses.

Why doesnu2019t anyone ever pick up the phone here? How is this office even still running?

I came all the way out to Culpeper to avoid the office in Manassas, since I read how horrible people are treated in Manassas.nnThese ladies, at Culpeper, were super fast, personable and top notch. I was in and out in just a few minutes.nnIt was raining heavily so maybe that kept the wait time down but they were fast and caring.nnThere is street parking but also a parking lot right behind the building for bigger vehicles.

Super fast service. All the people who work here are very helpful and friendly. I thought I was going to be there for at least an hour but they got me in and out in less than 20 minutes. Thank you!

Called the Culpeper social security today to report a change in my income, the woman who took my phone call answered the phone, not to happy, I knew I was going to have a problem with her, and by gosh, my instincts were right, she claims I was the one one with a problem, and my response to that is, I followed her lead, thereu2019s an old saying people make you what you are, she was not in a good mood when she answered the phone, so I knew I was going to have a problem, and sure enough I did.Anyway she wound up hanging up on me, very unprofessional, rude and ignorant, she has a very cushy job, easy hours, weekends off and holidays, sheu2019s warm in the winter and cool in the summer, they think because they work for the government, they can treat and talk to people anyway they want.Shame on her, for misrepresenting the government, she she definitely reprimanded, she should her self answer the phone, shameful, should learn some bed side manner, guess she was off that day, SHAMEFUL.
