I had to wait on hold multiple times for Social Security office, over 3 hours worth of my time to only be hung up on repeatedly or the call just drops. I was never rude or ugly. I just want to change my name & this is the first step. I wanted to schedule an appointment, the woman tells me that the SS office building would be open today. My husband goes up there and waits at 730AM along with 10 other people who were told the same thing. Only for someone to come out at 9am and ask why they were there. That they are closed. I was taking off work to come up there to get my documents changed & that was the first step to get all documents changed, license, bank, passport. Etc. You canu2019t do ANYTHING until Social is changed.nFinally after another 30 minute phone call they make an appointment for me for Monday - again, another day off work. They want you to send in original copies and then lose them in the mail so NO, you must go in person.nHere, when youu2019re told to go there today & then be told they arenu2019t open is so unprofessional. Why wouldnu2019t she just schedule an appointment in the first place? Such a waste of time and a shame they canu2019t have proper procedures and stop hanging up on customers. Supposedly I have an appointment Monday but we shall see! Another lady had her original documents lost TWICE and then they made an in person appointment, only to be turned away again when she showed up for it!

EDIT:nFinally after 3 days, I was able to get a hold of someone. And they said they're just now getting to applications received on January 10th.nnBeen calling for days. No response. Get hung up on after waiting 2-3 hours a day. I don't understand why the pffices aren't open - they can just take extra precautions. Really ridiculous.

Impossible to get anyone to answer the phone. I actually let my phone ring for over 3 hours, just wanted to see if there was a live person . Apparently not. So typical of government office . If this was a real business , incompetent people would be fired which is what should happen here. Speaks volumes about of government which we pay their salaries. I suggest you call India , you actually get someone there to answer , I give this office a F minus and if there were a lower grade I would give them thatnTotally worthless!!!!

Nobody goes to work in this office. There is only a security guard there telling people to call the office. The phone lines are stilling people how to protect against COVID. They are still using COVID as an excuse for incompetence.

It is impossible to make an appointment! I suppose I can't get in trouble for going by two names, and for not changing to my married name when the government will not make it possible. It's been 6 months and I still cannot get through to anyone. Governmental incompetents. . . as usual!

Good luck getting ahold of them. After staying on hold forever they like to just hang up. Never getting to actually talk to a person really gets aggravating. Tried many times with no luck.

Spent much of the afternoon trying to speak to a representative about the inclusion of military pay in the social security benefit calculation. Recording answered the phone, I went through the options, then asked to speak with a rep. Please wait, after 15-20 minutes on hold, the phone goes, beep beep, then the call goes dead. Made additional attempts with the same result. Why not just say you don't want to talk to me? That would make it much easier for all of us.

I waited on the phone for 3 hours during their business hours with no answer. This is ridiculous. Why even have an office if you are not going to do your job.

I have been trying to call once a week for over 4 months. I can never get thru and every 20 min I get hung up on. I have to an appointment for what I need to do and there is no way to make online appointments. I have called the National line only to be redirected back to the local level.

Generally very helpful for my simpler requests. Wait times depends on day and time of day. But had to go back twice to get Medicare's billing straightened out. Info on their computer system did not match CMS billing, so I overpaid, and had to go twice to try to set right. But people I contacted helpful and patient for me.

These people are great! Yes, we did have to wait...but at what Social Security Office would you not wait? The staff are on top of it and want to help even in complicated situations. Pleasant and friendly to work with. I love my Angleton Branch!!!

    Mrs Z
They might lose your documents. VERY poor communication. Called several times to make sure they recieved my application. Someone graciously called me back and said they recieved it and it will take 7-10 days to process it. I called agained to check status and they said they never recieved my application. Either they lost it or never recieved it either way I called and was misinformed. Go in to the office. Dont mail them anything if you can help it.
