Went in today for a replacement card expecting a long wait and was shocked by how friendly and efficient they were. From the guard at the front door - to the check-in procedure - to 'Jackie', who processed my application and handed me a receipt, all in under 15 minutes.nnTip: if you have business at this location, aim for arriving around 10:30 AM. By that time, the morning rush is over. When I arrived this morning at 10:30 there were only 4 people ahead of me. To recap: efficient, friendly and the easiest 5 star rating ever.nnEDIT: My new card arrived today, on 4/26, just 5 days after filing the application. Well done. Thank you, Lancaster SSA.

I needed to change some information on my social security card, so I had to apply for a new one. What an incredible experience it was! From calling to make an appointment (the hold time was only about 10 minutes, unheard of!) to the actual appointment, everything worked so smoothly. The gentleman who scheduled the appointment, the security officer at the door as well as the officer who conducted the interview were all so courteous and professional. Since the office is not open to the public yet other than by appointment, it wasn't crowded either.

Ridiculous to drive all this way for them to be closed. No updates on their website or anything! Could be more considerate. Guess I drove 1 hour for nothing!

My wife died six months ago and I still haven't gotten my survivor benefit for the burial. They just keep sending me paperwork saying that they don't have enough information to process my claim - I was married to my wife for 29 yearsnnThis is six monthsnnThese guys are crooks and should be fired

Great service! I needed a replacement SS card after losing mine. As the offices remain closed, I printed an application and mailed it off on 9/28/21 along with my required documents to my local SS office. I received my documents back on 10/7/21 with a receipt stating I would receive my replacement SS card in about two weeks but to my surprise, my new SS card was here on 10/12/21! I do admit that I was scared to send my important documents and risk them getting lost or not even knowing how soon I would receive them back, but I'm glad I did. Great, prompt service! Thank you!

I had procrastinated getting a name change done for months before I moved here because of inability to schedule appointments by phone and stories of other people losing their verification documents with no solutions. Then I moved here and pleasantly surprised to find I could make appointments by phone with way less than an hour on hold. I ended up not being able to make it in person so I mailed my forms and documents in. Within the same week I got my documents back and a receipt that my new card will be coming in x amount of time. The contrast in service is night and day and it couldn't have turned out better.

I needed to apply for social security cards for my two young daughters who were both born overseas. In order for us to apply for Healthcare coverage for my family based on PA requirements we had to make an appointment with the local Lancaster social security office, which was very difficult to do and needed to wait weeks after finally being granted an appointment. I don't really understand why this office isn't open yet as at first they asked me to mail in all of our original documents which I didn't feel comfortable doing in case they got lost. . Anyway we met with Frank who was the employee who handled our case in the Lancaster office. I've never met a more supportive and nicer government employee in my life. Frank was warm and compassionate in handling our case. My family thanks him for his caring of our family situation.

The person I talked to was so rude. He had scheduled me for an appointment and i realized shortly after that that time wouldnu2019t work for me. He told me heu2019d have to re enter all my info and if I u201cmade another mistake thereu2019s going to be a problemu201d. Another mistake? I just asked if there was a different appointment time for that day! Imagine not wanting to take the 2 extra minutes to re enter info and threatening someone for asking about an appointment time. Waited a year for responses that I can work with to get help - still waiting. Have been calling and calling to wait 20, 30, and at times over an hour on the phone to reach someone. any times the person can't fully help because they can'taccesssomething. They tell me to go into the office. I go in to sit for 3-5 hours in hard metal chairs. I am disabled and it's impossible for me to sit that long. I've sent in so much paperwork, old w-2's, pay stubs of family members, bank statements... you name it. Still waiting for my case to be updated and my benefits to be updated properly. Still waiting to hear from someone and to get help properly. The government needs to pay case workers properly and employ more people to handle the large case load!

Horrible experience, the security guard was rude and trying to be intimidating when it's obvious i'm not armed and not a threat. I had just gotten married and was applying for my new ssn with married name. It's been nearly 2 months and still haven't received it. Now I had to call there 1800 number and waiting for a call back because there was a 50min wait. I am anticipating having to go back to this horrible place with bums hanging around outside and deal with the rude harsh environment the employees create. Just Horrible, worse than DMV

Very organized and structured federal agency office. Security, check-in and customer service staff were all friendly and efficient! There were many people hence understandably an hour long wait time. The waiting area was clean and comfortable except for the under chair.

Long wait but they sorted my issue with a lost card in a matter of 5 minutes when it took me 3 days on my own (And I didn't exactly solve it on my own either). Perhaps the only thing I'd say to change is how sharply and loudly some receptionists speak into the overhead phones which can be deafening.

I am new to the Social Security scene and my first experience with them was overwhelmingly horrifying. When you encounter an issue, they advocate for you to use their website but, it doesn't give you clear answers. Then when you try calling their offices, your advised that they're unable to help you and you're told to go into your local Social Security office. The Social Security Office is definitely the last resort being as though you'll be sitting there all day. The entire system needs an immediate upgrade with a less sensitive automated phone system, friendly and knowledgeable customer service staff, as well as a comfortable office waiting area for individuals with children and individuals with disabilities that they serve.

Today I drove 30 mins to the office so I could change my name. I got here and on the door it says they are closed 12/24, 12/25 and 1/1 and today is 12/26 so they are suppose to be open. They had another note taped to to door that says they are closed today. So I drove the whole way in here for absolutely no reason. They have no website and no phone number so you can't even check to make sure they are open. I'm livid that I had to drive 1 hour today for absolutely nothing.

Went to get my name changed, brought all the necessary documents and they were not helpful at all. Phone experience was not any better.

Ended up calling 4 times before i finally found the form i supposedly need on my ownnit seems that they only have 2 people there answering phones out of the 4 times i called i got the same woman 3 times Ms. Ness. She did not want to listen to anything i had to say about my earlier contact to the head office 800 number (which they were very helpful), talked over me, had a generally snotty attitude and was quite rude. It doesn't even seem that they care about you as a person (i told her that i am unable to come in to the office to bring in my hard copy to replace medical records, and she constantly told me that i couldcome into their office). I have been fighting with social security for 8 years now ( i was hit with a mack truck in november of 2005 and suffered sever spinal cord trauma and nerve damage as a result) so there is a lot of frustration not to mention the passing of my grandmother recently, you would expect that some one who is charged with the duty of dealing with disabled people would show understanding, compassion and kindness. Instead what i got was bureaucracy, arrogance, and treated like dirt. People like her should not work in this field, people like me have already been though enough in our lives and we do not deserve to be treated as just another number calling in. We are people with emotions hopes and dreams and are just trying to live our lives... worst experience ever...

I called the Lancaster 1-888 number today. Only had to wait about 3 minutes for aliveperson to help me. Melissawas very congenial, friendly, and helpful. It was a pleasure speaking with her. She gave me the information I was looking for with explicit instructions if I wanted to take care of it on line rather than in the office. A 5-star rating was merited for this experience!

Watch out for this business. They are saying at a job I just quit I was making 3 times a month what I really did make. So that I won't make the whole month without my bank account hitting 0. I have shown proof of my earnings but when you leave the office they probably get into your account and make numbers up so they can short change you. I believe that is illegal for a government to do. So pay close close attention to your papers you receive from this business. I'm angry with them now.

Easy to get through when you call to ask questions. The wait isn't terrible when you go in person. The waiting area is clean and comfortable, the staff are friendly and helpful. Expect to spend over an hour here. All in all, not a terrible experience.

Visited today and was absolutely made to feel very uncomfortable as the security lady was very confrontational and loud with asking her procedural questions like as follows do you have and weapons knives guns and scissorsnAs well as me having to witness her badger a dark skinned brother about the same things as if she didn't already ask him these questions he replied the answer is the same as I said before.. She then had the supervisor of the facility call him into the office which I found to be very inappropriate. Some people let their sense of authority get to there heads. I feel bad for the mentally disabled as she had me almost in tears with how she scared the krap out of me

Just aweful. I retired and wanted to apply for Part B. I sent every form to them twice. They kept sending back my form with new forms and their letter kept sayuing if you have questions you may write or call. But they never give you a name on who to talk too and the person you need is apparently off everytime you call.nnThe government makes it difficult for real hard working seniors to get benifits they paid for all their lives yet. Describe your experience

Absolutely horrible. The woman I talked to didnu2019t want to do her job and wouldnu2019t help me out. I asked for her manager and she hung up on me. Why work in customer service if you donu2019t want to help people out?
    TeaGreenz
Waited on the phone for an hour just to be told they couldn't help me because they don't have access to my information. Then they want you to participate in a survey after your call... except the survey never came up. Shameful government system.
    morgan townsend
Literally the rudest call... 0 help!! When you call the automated message says that the offices are open. But their not. McDonald's and Walmart are open but not social security?
    Austin Helsel
impossible to call, no local number, other number is nationwide and too busy to take calls , told me to hang up and keep trying. I called medicare.gov and they said they are only for people already enrolled. so frustrating. A private company who cares should run this. Just horrible.
    Tim Yeager
Very well organized. They are very helpful and keep things moving at a good pace. I signed in at 8:46 am and was out by 10:15 am. The staff rocks!
    Matilde Schower
