    At first, this location seemed helpful. I was able to get into the office with my father and help with any issues that would come up. However, the issues started to arise on our second visit. We submitted our documents 3 times and nothing would happen. We had to make three visits over the course of the month just to ask about the progress of the process. On top of this, the security guard informed me that I would not be allowed in and that u201cthe people inside could help himu201d. If this was the case, I wouldnu2019t have gone with him. I was there to support him as English can be complicated at times. The person who allowed me in was right behind the current security guard and the response I got when I told him was allowed in last time was u201cThat wasnu2019t supposed to happen, we can talk about it out here.u201d I waited in line for an hour to be one of the first in line and youu2019re asking me to stand outside just to clarify. Please figure out the regulation in your building, youu2019re just making it harder for families that need help.

    Nobody ever answers the phone. Iu2019ve been trying to get a SSN for my daughter for NINE MONTHS now. If you arenu2019t going to answer the phone then open the office back up. This is ridiculous. I have to call Suffolk just to get basic questions answered since that is the ONLY office that will answer a phone. This is so unorganized and annoying. They have VERY IMPORTANT documents of mine. How will I ever get an update or those returned if nobody can pick up a phone?nnIf I could give ZERO STARS, I would.nnJust fire the entire office at this point and start over.

    You canu2019t ever get in touch with them, I changed my name recently it took weeks for me to actually speak to someone. Now Iu2019m trying to call regarding my daughters card, we filed at the hospital sheu2019s almost 2 months old and no one is answering the phone I was hung up on when I actually got a person on the phone and now trying to call and nothing. Im either told they are busy and they hang up or Iu2019m on hold for 20 minutes then they hang up.
    Apparently they are closed for public, the do not take any appointment or anything. My wife has been waiting for weeks for SSN, wait times to talk to someone are huge. Ridiculously rude agent, incompetent agency. Still trying to use COVID-19 as an excuse for not doing their job in a timely fashion. Shameful! Just shameful! God help you if you need any help from the federal government, especially from the Norfolk office.

    Worst experience of my life. I've been calling for DAYS all day long, from 8 AM to 4 PM, they REFUSE to answer the phones. These are the laziest people I think I've ever seen, it's like they're ALLERGIC to work. Everyone in this office is corrupt and wants to get by doing as little as possible. They should fire every employee and bring people in who actually care. If you don't believe what I'm writing, I DARE YOU TO CALL THEM. I say this to ANYONE. I dare you to call them. YOU WILL NEVER GET ANSWERED. It doesn't matter if you call for a week straight from 8 AM to 4 PM, you will be ignored every time. FIRE THE PERSON WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING CALLS, THEY REFUSE TO DO THEIR JOBS AND WASTE TAXPAYER MONEY.

    The security team at this location treat customers as a threat and with hostility. Their attitud, tone of voice, and way of addressing people is blatantly rude and unhelpful, straight out of a Dirty Harry movie. I got lucky and my clerk was very nice and did everything possible to address my request, though. That's the only reason for the 2-star rating instead of one, because the overall experience after 3 hours there was awful.

I love Portsmouth location better they are very patient and helpful but being that the social security buildings are based off jurisdictions they couldnu2019t do but so much to help me.

    Waited for them to answer for over 3 hours to do a drop off instead of mailing in for my newborn's social security number for taxes. No one ever answered!!!! This is crazy and I understand that call times are crazy, but this is the local office not the national number. I also work in a call center and this would never fly. Third day trying to do this and no completion. Also, why can't they take copies of the documents since it's so difficult to even get a hold of them. I don't trust the fact that they'll get my documents and send them back when I can't even get them on the line. FRUSTRATING!!!!!

    I got thru to someone after calling over and over again since 853 am, they open at 9 am. They answered my question, checked where the status is on my claim. Agent was nice. Reason why I'm giving 3 stars cause it's been so hard to get someone unless u start calling multiple times for 7 or so minutes before they open.

    Edit: 21 Dec 2021 Finally received the new social security card and my documents.nnEdit: 15 Dec 2021 Finally got through after 25mins of being on hold. Mrs. Ada was very helpful. She was able to tell me when my mail was received on the 29 Nov and was returned on 6 Dec. According to her, it should not take more than 3 business days. I still have not receive my new card yet but hopefully this information helps someone else.nnEdit: So I sent in my paperwork for name change and I am still waiting.nnI just called twice. The first time the lady could not answer a question and she just hung up. The second time, I said hello and she hung up again.

    My experience was great..! The only thing I had an issue with was the people who could not follow simple instructions from the security team. If people would just follow SIMPLE instructions it would all be so simple!

    Literally the rudest experience ever. First, no one answers the phone. I've tried on three occasions and it just rings and rings. Second, the guard at the door of the building tried to tell us we shouldn't be there despite the fact that we were told to drop off our envelope at the drop box. The drop box wasn't marked, and while we were there, the guard chased off other people who were just trying to get stuff resolved. There is never any excuse for rudeness.

    I called the Social Security administration at 9 AM, Held on until 12:10 PM. Finally a lady answers with an attitude like I called her house in the middle of the night, just rude. She then tells me I have to call back after holding on for hours. The customer service is horrible and very unprofessional. Itu2019s really sad how they treat people, especially the females.

    This office doesn't have enough resources available to handle the amount of people coming here to get issues resolved.nThis lack of resources resulted in long lines forming hours before the office opens at 9 am. Anyone who has been here recently will agree that if you do not come and get in that line you will be there till the end of the day.nSSA has a very bad process; most of the time a person waits in a standing room only waiting area for a few hours after going through prescreening questions and then gets invited in only to be told that because of some reason or the other there issue cannot be resolved and they must leave and come back and go through the same process again.nLook for another office if you can to get your issues resolved.nSSA should increase both human resources and waiting area at this center as well as display on screen approximate wait time for everyone in queue.     Never answer the phone & it does not give you the option to schedule an appointment online. Should open the building back to the public if theyu2019re not going to answer the phone. Most customers are fully vaccinated we have face masks & hand sanitizer as well. No longer necessarily to have the building shut down

    They have unrealistic expectations and requirements to get a social security card issued. They want you to LEAVE your ID/license with them for several days/weeks and trust that it gets delivered back to you via USPS. They have zero accommodations considering the u201cpandemicu201d. My belief is, they got a little TOO comfortable working remotely and is slacking off and messing with peoples livelihoods. Too much misinformation being given, lack of empathy, so dismissive, unwillingness. There is NO reason they shouldnu2019t open back up to the public.

    I have been trying to get in contact with someone since August 2021. I mailed in a name-change form and personal information to the office in April 2021 and have received no reply or return of my documents. My husband is active-duty military and we have since moved out of state because of military orders. Will my vital, personal, confidential documents ever be returned? Or will they get mailed to my old address if the form is ever actually looked at ... The system is entirely broken if there is no way to communicate: I have tried phone, email, online messaging. Nothing. I have no way of updating my mailing address. I have waited patiently on hold multiple times for over an hour before getting dropped. I have been waiting patiently for 7 months for information to be returned. I can understand that folks are busy; but how do I make sure that personal information is being kept secure if I can't update anything or contact anyone? It is starting to get really frustrating and pretty ridiculous. If anyone has any advice as to how to proceed ... I'm at a loss as to what to do next...
