Goodluck getting through on the phone, I waited an hour just to be disconnected and the many calls I made after that were also disconnected and or the line went silent (put to the end of the line) after already waiting 10/15+ minutes.. and they have the doors locked STILL..n(of course Covid) so no point trying to go in person, because you have to make an appointment, through the phone line they don't answer.. you would think since they have no one in line at the office that they could at least answer their phones... Oh, and don't bother sending in your ID card for a replacement SS card for your child, they will send your ID back and still refuse to send the replacement ss card. I sincerely hope you have better luck.

I went there today because they were supposed to be open to the public. The security guard told me lie after lie, tried to take my paperwork, doesn't seem to know anything about social security, and just shut the door in my face. Just so he, and everyone, is aware: yes you can now make an appointment to get a new card if you changed your name.nnHow am I supposed to get a new card when you want original documents of my ID? Am I supposed to just drive around for a week without my license and trust you'll mail it back? Just let me make an appointment.

I tried calling many times. Either no one answers or my calls drop. The federal government is just too fat. Zero accountability and nothing changes or gets done. Good grief, if this was a private company, there would be a lot of justified trimming.

If you are able to go to another SSA, donu2019t come here!! I took everything I need but was still told I cannot process. I took exactly the same paperwork to another SSA, then success.

Submitted a claim, and before it was even completed, I got a phone call from a staffer asking for clarification. She helped speed the paperwork through in 2 days, it was amazing. She even provided an email so I could email in a missing piece of info. Pleasantly surprised as this was well beyond what I expected!

I have called for 2 days in a row and on hold for almost 20 mins each time, then they say you are now being connected to a representative. It rings for 5 mins straight and no one picks up. So frustrating. Can't go in except for appts. I have to talk to someone because I can't fix this online .

A very rude and inconsiderate young man was inside the waiting area while i was there. He was playing music on his phone's speaker as loud as it could go. He was not cooperating at all with the security guard. The security guard was very professional and had to escort him from the building. Good job!

I spoke to Mr. Holmes today. He was very unprofessional and rude! I called in with my client for his case. He has a rep payee and was told to ask her for all the information. He asked to verfiy information and because my client did not know the information, I started to provide it. Mr. holmes cut us off and told us not to give the client the address and blah blah. The convo was really bad and not helpful. I had to call back and explain his attitude and then he was able to provide more information all of the sudden. He does not belong there!!

My husband's case worker (Karen of all names) never called for a phone appointment SHE made & when he tried calling her she was apparently on vacation for the following 2 weeks. We've tried calling so many times, he's left her messages & nothing. NOBODY ANSWERS THE PHONE!

The person I talked to was totally rude and kept talking over me. Then threatened to hang up on me if I didnu2019t stop talking. Absolutely gross customer service.

incredibly hard to get a hold of, and unwilling to provide simple answers to simple questions. It's almost as if they want to make dealing with them as bad as possible to discourage you from trying.

This is the most incompetent office I have ever dealt with! My new son's SS card was returned to them because of a post office issue. Thus I had to apply for areplacementcard. This required that I drive back to the birth center, to get a letter from the doctor and send in my passport, just what you want to being doing when you are recovering from birth and have a new baby. My documents were returned to me with a letter telling me to wait 30 days before I checked in on the issue. I never received his card so called 32 days later to find that they had no record of the document because no one there had uploaded them to the online system. Thus I had to go back to the post office, to resend my passport, and his birth certificate, and resubmit the form. I was advised to call 2 days after I sent them to check that they were uploaded. Before the two days elapsed, my documents were sent back to me, I called anyway to make sure that they did their job. I spoke with one helpful woman who could not find them, but said that they had changed how they were processing them to make it faster. She took my email and said she would email me after she tracked them down. 8 days elapsed, and no email. I called again and was advised that no documents had been recorded because this time I did not send the letter from my doctor, and his birth certificate did not count as a form of ID. Now I have to go to the post office for a third time to part with my son's birth certificate and my passport and request a new original signed letter from my midwife for the SSA to simply upload and keep documents. Soooo frustrating, and the last thing I have capacity for as a new mother, but I can't file my taxes until I receive his card.

Talked to a few people from the Salem Oregon location to find out what happened to my application for replacement due to name change that was submitted back in March 2021. Told them when I sent it in, with what documents I sent in (Original drivers license, Certified Copy of Name Change and my Birth Certificate) and that a week later I got my documents back with no paperwork stating what if anything they did with my application. I have called multiple times since submitting this and everyone I have encountered was rude, didn't know anything that was not in front of them and was not willing to let me talk to a manager or someone that would be able to tell me more than they already knew. I was told today to re-file with all the same documents and hope this does not happen again. Not sure why social security need to close their offices as they are behind locked doors and shielded by glass anytime they meet with customers. This needs to be corrected because they can't seem to process anything correctly or know what happened and when. Poor attitudes, poor customer service and they definitely need to teach these folks some manners. Will not do business with this location again even though they are 10 minutes away from my home. They do not deserve any stars but that apparently is not allowed.

No one ever answers the phone.nThey're very unprofessional whenever they do just for simple questions.nIt's like they try their hardest to make it painful and difficult to deal with Social Security.

I am an advocate for homeless seniors and disabled in Salem, Oregon. My Camper/Advocate Partnerships have received so much help from the agents setting up appointments for my Camper Partners. I'm hoping all their issues can be resolved in a timely fashion.

Terrible, canu2019t talk to anyone, canu2019t get an appointment to get a court ordered name change on a social. Not helpful and u201cdonu2019t take copiesu201d of ANYTHING but also dont want me to bring the documents in. So ridiculous

I know these people work hard at their jobs, but anyone that has tried to get service from the SSA office lately seems to have been thourally frustrated, including myself. After numerous attempts over a period of days I actually spoke to a real person briefly.nI was instructed to go to the SSA office and get the forms I needed, but the office is locked. There is a security guard that can only answer basic questions. The people I was in line with, standing out in the rain, all left appearing as disappointed as I was.nMuch thanks to the individual that instructed me to come to the office to get the forms I needed so I could also be disappointed and wet after standing out in the rain.nI know that is a busy office, but heaven forbid they might offer to mail the forms I needed directly to me. I felt like I was speaking to an angry teenager that couldn't wait to get off the phone, and I only needed forms that were only available inside the office unaccessible.nI personally gave up.

The website says the office is open but it isnu2019t! Call the number and ask how to change my name and they said send in form and documentationu2026 Iu2019m not sending my identity through the mail and online reviews indicate that is a bad idea! People have to get back to their lives! Open up so we can get back to normal!

I've been here several times with my husband but I never really got the document that I needed from them until now. The first time we were there we actually thought it was going to go smoothly until this mexican woman staff that they had, had some issues with how my name was long for that document. She told me it should be fine and that they will give us updates in a month or so we should be getting a mail. We waited and nothing ever came. So we went back, we are almost an hour away from where we currently live. We went back here for the 2nd time and they told us to wait for another month and maybe they can do something about it so we gave it another shot, they told us that it might not work out though and they warned us. When we did not receive any for that 2nd time. We went back here for the 3rd and last time, and they just told us we were out of options at the moment and that they can't do anything about it. We had absolutely no idea what happened there or if there were miscommunications involved with departments in processing our case but the first time we went there and had an appointment, surely messed up the rest of the year for me and for the both of us. It did not turn out as we expected it would be. And we didn't think it would be this bad and this long. Now they told us we are only given 2 options left and we just have to go with it like everything is okay. So that was my experience in this office, hopefully the next time I walk in there would actually have a positive outcome as we walk out because I am tired of being said NO to all year long. Anyway, the waiting time wasn't that bad, I think they were systematic in how they ran things there, just need to be patient. The security upfront was actually doing his job in inspections. Their customer service, I would say it was fine, I just do not think they were confident at what they were doing. I'm sure there's always room for improvement and I understand that that place has always been fully packed so its stressful for everyone else.

Good service and wait times are down, but whenever I come here I lose something because they empty my purse and not everything goes back in. The last time I lost my reading glasses. The security guard gave them to an elderly lady who was behind me. When I looked for mine, I realised those were my glasses he had given her.nThe people here are great at helping you and getting you out of here. Too bad you have to line up outside the building just to be seen.

Misspelled my newborns name and refused to fix it. I can't get ahold of anyone and office has been closed for over a year. Won't accept necessary documents online.

A guy who works there named Mr. Holmes (wouldnu2019t give me first name) was very unprofessional. They lost my marriage certificate in the mail. I asked to speak with a supervisor and he told me he wonu2019t do that and immediately hung up on me. Terrible service for someone who works in social security office.

I know these people are working extremely hard through this whole covid thing but workers should really be more thorough when on the phone with people. I was told I would have my ID and new social card by last week and that they have been very good about making sure people's IDs with socials are sent immediately out I was never told anything about the mail having to be quarantined once they received it through the mail. Well needless to say I explained my situation and told them this is basically a dire need to have back ASAP as if I don't I won't have a job and with this covid going around finding jobs is no easy job. So needless to say I've lost my job opportunity due to a false statement so thank you much for really not helping me and making covid for my family even worse and our holidays because no one could be thorough but I guess these people don't really understand since they have jobs they still can go to ud83dude4cud83cudffc. Only gave three stars so nobody else has to go through this ud83dude4cud83cudffc.

How can someone work there not know how to send a replacement social. How can you be so bad at your job and still have it. Iu2019ve never heard I donu2019t know so many times. Iu2019ve been locked out of my account for weeks. Unable to work because their staff have rocks for brains.

I don't know why there were so many bad reviews. This was my first time going to the social security office and it was great! Of course there is a line(when is there not?). But if you have all the things that you need, you'll be fine. Print out your paperwork and fill it out beforehand, do some research what documents you will need to bring. And ladies, save yourself some time and just bring your wallet instead of your entire purse. Security does bag checks and if they find something you're not suppose to have (mace, stun gun, etc) you have to go to your car and go back in line. That was my experience as I had mace in my purse and was politely informed that I could not be let inside, so I went to my car to put it away and came back. The woman that did my paperwork was really informative and kind. If you're prepared, it's smooth sailing!

We had to wait outside until they opened about 20 in front of us. When we got inside my daughter's # was called quickly (within 10 minutes). She was helped very fast & efficiently, & then to my pleasant surprise, the women offered to go ahead & help me as well. She was able to do so in a short amount of time, which saved me from a lengthy wait. It was much appreciated. Overall an extremely painless visit!

Not helpful! Wont let me come in just to get a SSN for new daughter that they never sent and will take about a month after sending in paperwork when I need the number now to get the help we need and to file for taxes. She just turned 1yr and still never got anything!
    Gregory Coe
Helpful when you can get ahold of them but I'm going on a week straight of calling them all day during business hours and no one ever answering the phone. Like how can a federal agency just not answer the phone?
    Gregory Laird
The security guard was friendly when I arrived. He asked about weapons, knives, etc--I had none. He then instructed me to sign in and to be seated. I had a short wait (arrival at 12:19 PM on a Thursday, called to window at 12:35 PM). The SSA agent was competent and friendly. My paperwork was processed and I was finished by 12:45 PM.nnI did have the paperwork filled out before I arrived, and I did have the required ID. Given that, everything was smooth and quick. A job well done by the SSA.
