They donu2019t pick up the phone, donu2019t have a drop box and you canu2019t make appointment online but they wonu2019t pick up the phone so you can make appointments either! So my next question is why is this office open and when is it going to actually open to the public? COVID is over! Picture take on 2/22/22

Update 1/4/2022: Still waiting for the letter. Couple of weeks they said they will send out mail in a day or two. Called them today again and now they could not find my application itself. I have no words to say. With expired license and two year old at house, don't know how SSA would expect me to live my life and run my day to day activities which needs driving!!!nnRidiculous experience with these guys. I have been waiting from last 9 months to get a non-eligibility letter. They misplaced my application first time and 3 months are gone. My second application was rejected without providing reason after 3 more months. Had to call them multiple times to know the reason. Third application is in progress from last 2 and half months. Since I do not have this letter I canu2019t get my license renewed. This canu2019t be done online, application via mail takes months and in person is not allowed. What a misery!! Great job SSA team. .

I thought I'm the only one suffering with this place, omg! every review is 100% true, this place is a joke of an office, first the security officer who is not helpful at all, his job is to tell people to keep calling even though no one pick the phone, I suffered for almost 6 months now I have not received a non-eligibility letter for driving license application, I have never seen a bureaucratic office like this, I sent first application no response till today, I sent second application no response till today, how do they expect people to function, go to work, and do daily activities if they cannot drive? I'm not sure if someone is reading the reviews otherwise they would have improved something in this office. Well, good job SSA office in Frederick for torturing people! Rating should be zero for this office.

2/22/22 came here and was met by a rude security guard. I told him the phone were not working and he said yeah we get that alot..... he said you have to call to make an appointment. I asked how can you call and make an appointment when everytime we call it's a busy signal. He is reply was oh well were getting appointments some how.....nnThis is all crazy! How can this place be the only thing shut down. All other businesses are open! They can't keep using covid as an excuse anymore. If our kids can go to school and everyone else wear masks in businesses then why can't the ss office do the same?

I don't get it..I have to go the website none of the information has anything to do with what I needed. And if you call the office is always closed. And when you go down to the main office. They are saying that you have to make a appointment. This is ridiculous!! Doesn't make no sense. I hate dealing with this location..it's just waisting my whole day.

Since contacting the SSA over the past year, I have had numerous issues getting correct and timely information. The website is a nightmare to navigate and contains very little information that is helpful. In addition, it is nearly impossible to get hold of anyone in the national office that knows what they are talking about. Worst of all, the amount of paper correspondence that is sent out with differing pieces of information (most of it incorrect) is enough to drive anyone crazy with the conflicting pieces of information often sent within days of each other.nnThank goodness for M. Grasso in the Frederick office! She is simply an outstanding example of what every federal employee should be. She has excellent communication skills, is extremely professional and polite, and probably most importantly of all, she is super knowledgeable about the system and how to navigate through the mountain of paperwork. I am sure she is overwhelmed by the workload during this pandemic, but nevertheless she DOES return phone calls to those of us leaving a message to her about our cases. She is the only person I will deal with regarding any question or concern I have now or in the future. I can only hope and pray that the Federal government has a plan/procedure/protocol in place to retain and reward employees such as she. Thank you Ms. Grasso for all you do!

They ARE OPEN FOR WALK-INS! Super easy, only took about 10 minutes to get my legal name change application for a new card done.

The representative that assisted me, Naomi, deserves 5 stars. I was treated with respect, courtesy and professionalism.nThe process, however, receives far less.nI applied for benefits on July 13, 2021. I mailed documents with tracking and they were received on July 14, 2021 with a confirmation signature.nAs of today, my documents have been sitting idle, not even scanned into the system.nSix weeks and not even scanned into the system. I was told 4-6 weeks for total completion of the process.nAbsolutely unacceptable.nI could understand a slight delay because Covid, Covid, Covid but seriously.nI was asked if I sent in the document. I replied that I had and recited the USPS confirmation of receipt. I never received any notice that they were waiting on said document. That might have alerted them to get on the ball.nNegative stars. Six weeks to simply scan a paper and keep it moving.nnUpdate!nOn my 3rd call I was assisted by Ms. Samuel who immediately spoke with her Manager, Ms. Bailey. They immediately pursued locating my document. My application was reviewed that very day. It's notable that no attempts to locate the facility Supervisor, a Mr. Grau, were successful.nThose who resolved my issue deserve recognition.

If I could give them a 0 I would. Iu2019ve been waiting for my SSN for over 6 weeks and I still havenu2019t received it. Every time I call them they say they had misplaced my paperwork but that they would process it immediately and this has been going on for the past month and a half. Iu2019m tired of being lied every single day and Iu2019m definitely filling in a complaint. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS OFFICE TO ANYONE.

This place basically uses covid as an excuse for everything even though weu2019ve been in this pandemic for a year and couple months now. Iu2019m transgender and I need my name changed on my social security card and the clerk didnu2019t seem like she cared at all after I told her itu2019s really important that I get this social security card back. She didnu2019t even asked if I had anymore questions which I did and just hung up so that was very rude of her. Please hire people that actually want to work and help, not ones that are there just for a paycheck.

Very rude, I got married on September 12th and Iu2019m still waiting to change my last name. I called before I sent in the application to ask what I needed to send, they said u201c sent us the application, copy of marriage certificate, copy of birth certificate.u201d Mailed in a week after I got married took them 2 months to mail it back saying denied and I had to send the application again with the original marriage certificate so I did in November, and Iu2019m still waiting. I keep calling for a update just to get told u201c keep on waiting we only have one person working on it and we canu2019t look in to it and that we are 7 weeks late on opening our mailu201d this is unacceptable, Iu2019m tired of hearing COVID as the excuse for everything. I hope I get back my original marriage certificate back. Good luck to any new brides who are trying to change their name in MD

I recently called The SSA Frederick office to file for SSDI for a sick family member. The first time I called I talked to Ms. Grasso. Ms. Grasso walked me through the process and prepared me for the meeting to fill out the application. Ms. Grasso was helpful , patient, well Informed and professional. The second call was with Ms. Wilson. Ms. Wilson spent almost two hours helping me with the application and answering all my dumb questions. They were both kind, patient and compassionate. I was expecting to receive very poor customer service and received the best customer service Iu2019ve ever experienced. Thank you both for all your help.

The man I spoke to moments ago was incredibly rude. I thanked him for the information and he hung up before I finished my sentence. I am furious.

I've been to this SSA office more times than I care to count but something close to 10 times since I started Medicare about a year ago. I have found the people to be very good but they are obviously understaffed. It takes patience and it is impossible to get an appointment but if you go there 15 minutes before opening and not on a Monday, the wait is not bad at all. I've never spent more than an hour there. Many thanks to those who proved most helpful including Ms. Corlis, Ms. Davies and Ms. Rici. Sorry if the spellings are off a bit. I can confirm that one of the security guards needs an attitude adjustment or a different line of work.

We arrived at 9:00 am. We were seen within 30 minutes. Mrs. Archer was our customer service rep. She was absolutely outstanding. She was competent and handled our issue very efficiently. We were out within half an hour. We had trouble applying for Medicare only on-line. Previously, the Columbia, Md office set up a phone appointment 7 weeks out and didn't even call to honor the appointment. We called again and they offered to set up another appointment in another 4 weeks. We were fed up with the Columbia office and went to the Frederick office. They absolutley rock. The people in the Columbia, Md office should be fired for incompetence.

Im frankly disgusted with whoever runs this office. It's by phone only and the phone number doesn't even work.

Worst experience ever. I called ahead of time asking about my sonu2019s SSN because I miss pleaded the first card sent. They told me a birth certificate was needed. I went to the health department and purschased a BC and went to the SS office in Frederick. I waited 1.5 hours with my baby (nursing him the in car, feeding him snacks to keep him quiet) before being called and told a birth certificate was not a valid document to show and that I needed his health record. I also had a form from the hospital sighed by a doctor with his birthdate and name, but that also was not good enough. I felt instantly defeated since I needed the SSN to sign up for health insurance. I decided to check my van and within 1 minute from leaving the desk, I found a vaccine record in my car. I brought it to the security officer which stated it was a valid document but that I would have to take a new number!!! Seriously no compassion or empathy. They only had 2 windows open the whole time and with a baby, I could not wait another 1.5 hours before being seen again. I did not leave for several minutes or drive off anywhere, I walked out and back in and could not be placed in next cue. Defeated and heartbroken does not even begin to explain how I felt leaving. I cried all the way home.

The representative I talked to was incredibly rude and unhelpful. It seemed like she was mad at me for calling and having questions...She hung up on me without checking whether I have any other questions (which I did). After the call I did not feel like sitting on the line for another 30 minutes just to be talked to that way. Very disappointed.

I went to SSA and had a GREAT experience, I was there less than a 1/2 an hour. I had all of my documentation, my completed application, and the staff were excellent to work with.nnI believe it's helpful if you arrive prepared, with your information already completed on the appropriate forms and having the backup required to make your changes, makes it easier on the staff.nnThe only information that is different from their website is the hours.nM-F 9:00am-3:00pm; except Wednesday's are 9:00am-12:00pm

The waiting room had about ten people ahead of us, so it took about 45 minutes, which, as a walk-in without an appointment seemed reasonable. The Social Security representative was personable and professional; she handled our situation fast and efficiently.
    Justin Streufert
Friendly representative helped me with my issue quickly and efficiently. Just be prepared with the documentation their website says you need. Get an appointment, or come when Google says it's less busy. I visited on a Tuesday afternoon, was third in line, and was out in 20 minutes. Oh, and please leave the poor security guard alone, he is not able to answer your social security questions :)

Arrived at 1137...spent 60 mins waiting...didn't even get called before needing to leave for another appointment elsewhere...and there were still 6 people in front of us. Better still, with a waiting room full of people, they closed one of the visable windows so the technician could eat lunch....nOffice was down to one visably open window -- how about someone else stepping up to fill-in? Typical SSA customer service...slow and aloof. These are the folks who give all USG workers a bad image!!!

Scheduled appt on line and arrived early. Mrs A. was the representative who worked on my enquiry, was helpful, pleasant, professional and responsive in every way. She had the necessary paperwork prepared in advance, was familiar with the issues involved and conducted the process quickly and efficiently. One of the best government related interactions I have ever experienced. Kudos to Mrs A and the SSA Office.

As long as you are kind as respectful all of the people that help the public here are super nice. Check in is at the electronic kiosk to the right. Dont plan on seeing a person quickly because the lines are long;I suggest getting there a half hour early and waiting at the entrance. You can do most of the things you'd think of online. Be patient and bring a good book!

Called to get an application and they wouldnu2019t email me an application without me giving them my full social security number on the phone. When I said that sounded fishy they hung up on me.
    Mike Morse
Ms. Corlis was polite and efficient and was very helpful. I was called within about a minute of arriving and logging in at the kiosk.nI had scheduled an appointment and was seen right away. Good job.

Not so helpful. Tried to apply for my social security card a week ago, and they said what I could use to prove my identity would be school records, medical records, etc. But the man who helped us a week back did NOT specify how recent the was school records had to be, therefore the woman today told us the records I provided weren't valid.
