Any FEDERAL business is horrible, but this office is by far the worst to deal with. By definition, a pandemic can NOT last more than 2 years. I will not wear a mask inside of any institute, federal or not. I understand having to make an appointment, it can most definitely make things smoother, HOWEVER, MAKE IT AT LEAST MANAGABLE to make an appointment, sitting on the phone for 2hours and 36 minutes and still didn't get a answer, I hung up because I can NOT wait like that, and when i show up at the time of my appointment, DO NOT MAKE ME WAIT FOR TWO HOURS, to be rude.. I can do that on my own by walking into any given Walmart in South Carolina. Federal SSA and can't afford to run a small program on the website to make it available for the public to make an appointment ONLINE. I have had, over the years, ONE helpful employee at this office. Everyone else is rude, condescending, not helpful, and ignorant of other people. DO BETTER

I have called this office at least 5-6 times on separate occasions to simply confirm how I need to send them my documents and if copies of the original docs would suffice, and I have literally never gotten an answer. Sometimes the call would go straight to a dial tone, other times the call would ring and no one would pick up and I am not able to leave a voicemail.nThey will send me a denial letter but won't answer their phones to confirm what I need to do so I don't get denied, so I'm at a total loss on what I need to do.nnI have never been more frustrated with an official office/service like this!

Today, I was provided the most courteous and helpful advice from Mrs. BRUNNER with the Columbia, SC SSA office, when I called to find out what was needed to get my name changed on my Social Security card and my Medicare card, due to a recent marriage.nI can't thank her enough for her patience in making sure I clearly understood what forms were needed. I hope everyone is fortunate enough to get her when they call!!

They don't see people in person and don't answer the phone. I have sent in all the required documents it literally takes them month to 2 months respond letter. I called and asked the required documents and sent them just that and still getting denied. These people need to get off there tail and get back in the office Covid gone be around forever just like others. My son need his social security for school and they will not see in person or answer the phone. What are these people getting paid to do sit at home reject letters and not answer phone calls.

I have tried calling the local office number eight times today only to have a recording tell me to try my call again later and then automatically disconnect. I tried calling the national number and sat on hold to no avail. I went to the local office building and was instructed by the security officers to call the two numbers I had already called. When I told them I had called those numbers multiple times already and cannot get a hold of anyone, they told me thatu2019s all I can do. This is completely unacceptable, what are our tax dollars paying for?nnUpdate - called the Sumter, SC local SSA office and got through to a very polite man on the first try. Seriously, what is the Columbia office doing?

You need to pick up the phone. Quit telling people to send in documents. When they're just being denied at the moment. The process for mail-in applications is extensive and can cost you a bunch of time and money when you do traveling from Texas.

I want to Praise Ms. Kaneesha(sp) for her professionalism and helpfulness, but most of all Ms. Kaneesh's (sp) patience, and kindness. I was crying and so upset when I called and this young Lady not only gently calmed me, she Listened to me! Ms. Kaneesha (sp) did exactly what she said. Now I pray the case worker I've been asigned is just as caring as Ms. Kaneesha...... fingers crossed.nThank you Social Security for having such a Lovely young Lady as Ms. Kaneesha. You are so lucky yo have her.nnSincerely, Tanya D.

Short and well, not so sweet. I called the first time and held for 20 mins. Someone picked up, said nothing and placed me back on hold. I hung up. Called back a little later. Held for 12 mins. Someone picked up....again...said nothing for 3 mins...like I couldn't tell someone was on the line, then they hung up. ud83dude44 SSA....Please do better.

Sat on hold for 20 mins. Don't even bother going here. I went to the one in Rock Hill and was in and out in 20 minutes, and was treated respectfully!! Worth the hour long drive!

Just like everyone else, they are extremely rude, unprofessional and it is astonishing how they are allowed to operate with the staff they have. Name change was changed to a completely wrong name (not even sure who it is on the SSN) and no one answers the phone, and when they do they literally get nasty and say inappropriate things. Even before COVID this office and all state offices in Columbia were well below standard, this is absolutely shocking though.

Thanks to my tax man. He spelt my name wrong when he process my taxes to the IRS. The IRS told me that I need to go through SSA to verify the spelling of my name and they can correct it. Tried contacting them but got no answer and when they did answer no one spoke in the phone. Based on these other bad reviews, something got to be done with the SSA. I m looking into calling our senator, congressman, or even the press.
    Christina Vazquez-Locklear
I have tried calling numerous times and I get no answer. Like others I can not sit on hold and wait for a representative to answer or leave a voicemail because after a hand full of rings it says try your call again later and cuts off. How are we supposed to get stuff done if we can not get a hold of anyone to help us and we can't go inside. I feel like this is the worst customer service official office I have ever dealt with and I have dealt with some pretty awful customer service like I'm sure everyone has but this is by far the most fusterating.
    Chris Buchanan
How many times can I call and I'm put on hold and then disconnected! Where is quality control? I think if SSA contracted with a call cento overseas the service would be better than this!nnThis office gets zero stars!
    Katirah Bellamy-Jackson
I wish I could give 0 stars.. they have appointment only but no oneu2019s answering the phones for questions or concerns.. Iu2019ve called 10 times LITERALLY & each time I was on hold for at least 30 minutes & my call was disconnected each time! This is absolutely ridiculous how you all treat people that are reaching out for help. Still using covid as an excuse to be lazy and half work!

I have been waiting for my social security card for 4 months for my name change. My car got stolen along with all of my IDs just last month and I canu2019t get them replaced because they donu2019t want to do their jobs.

HORRIBLE BRANCH. They asked me to send in my official id and then somehow ended up losing it and then blamed ME for sending it in??? Shameful how this is how a federal business operates.
    J Chavarru00eda
I set an appointment over the phone, I showed up on the date and time they told me to and security didn't have my name on the list. This is ridiculous!
    Jessica Robinson

I have never evaluated any company or place on Google Maps. This is my first time. Because i am so angry at this place. I called many time to do my letter. But everyone told me different things. Someone told me to fax, and that is the only way, and then I went to the fedex to fax my information to them. But today I called again they told me to mail my information. Why?? I did what you guys said to do and then it turns out I have to do it in another way. I am really tried to call this number, sometimes someone pick up my phone and ask my name tell me to hold and then just hang off the phone.n???? Iu2019ve never meet a place like this.nI canu2019t believe this is social security administration

I have tried to order a new one online but the DOB doesnu2019t match. Filled out the application they claimed they didnu2019t receive the first one then stated they may have but if I didnu2019t send the original documents my Id and birth certificate that they wouldnu2019t have processed it anyway. I just want to come in bring my documents and get my new social it shouldnu2019t have to be this hard. You want me to go to the dmv and vital records pay for official copies and then pay for this new card which would still take atleast 30 days when I can literally walk in show you my documents and be done. South Carolina just wants any reason to take your money and it is beyond ridiculous itu2019s your clerical error to begin with not mine.

The phone number goes to customer service, says they are busy, and hangs up on you. How is this okay? How do you get through to do what you need to do? If anyone has any ideas, they would be welcome. Thank you.

Something needs to change here. I tried for a year and a half to get my son a SSN; I must have called more than 20 times and spoken to someone. Every person I talked to was lovely and got my information and said I would get a call back soon from Ms. or Mrs. Starks. Not once did I get a call back. In well over a year, after dozens of empty promises, I NEVER got a call back. Zero response. I explained that I was going to lose my child's health coverage if I couldn't get him a SSN, but no response. There's a slew of other problems that come with not having a SSN, but that is the big one. Granted, it's during a pandemic and people are working from home and it's hard to schedule appointments for everyone, but this has to be one of the exception cases.nnIt should be said, that I started to call around to other SSA offices because of desperation. The kind and helpful people at the Greenville SSA office gave me an appointment within two days. I drove 5 hours round trip and got my son a SSN three days later. Columbia, be more like Greenville. If you have to change your managing staff, then do it. There's no reason a Government office needs to be this bad at doing what it's there to do.

I had my daughter last year in April. I waited six months after her birth to contact the office because I knew there would be a delay due to COVID. I was told to be patient and I should receive it soon. A month goes by. I call and now I'm told her SSC WAS sent to me. I told her I had not received it. I asked when was it sent. She said the next day after I was discharged from the hospital. I told her that was not true. I said her information must've been implemented in the system but there was no way her SSC was sent to me less than 24hrs of me leaving the hospital. She was very rude and said I just had to do everything over. I called the Columbia office and was told that it showed it was entered like I said and most likely was NOT sent to me. So I did send my information as well as my daughter's. Waited at least a month, which is now a week from her 1 yr old birthday. I call again to the Columbia office. She looks at my case but tells me to call Aiken's office. I called them and found out her information was not entered in the system. They didn't send me anything to let me know why. I'm just waiting AGAIN. The young lady I spoke with said I had to do the process over AGAIN. She assured me the wait won't be as long and a rush would be put on it. It has been 2 weeks so I call Aiken's office again only to sit on hold for 15 minutes and no one says anything. It's like someone sat on the phone and waited for 15 minutes to transpire so they could hang up the phone. I called back again but called Columbia also to have them both on the line. So I could talk to whomever answered first. They both did the same thing by sitting on the phone never saying anything and they both hung up AGAIN. I just want my ID back. I'm so over this. It makes absolutely no sense for my daughter to not have received her SSC by now.

Thess people working here are extremely under qualified. I applied for my daughteru2019s SS card in Feb. was told will be done in 10-14days but didnu2019t. 3 weeks later called them again found out they didnu2019t scan the documents and a guy on the phone said he will go scanning it so the people will start to work on the application. Today middle of April, called again, guess what? Nobody scanned the documents since Feb and now they can not find any documents of my daughteru2019s. Instead of trying to figure a way out to solve the problem and made it right so we can restart the application process, they would just hang up or put you in another whatever supervisoru2019s voice mailbox.nnI do not understand how these people even get the job and do they have any idea about work ethic and professionalism. Oh actually they are very professional in hanging people up.nnRIDICULOUS.

Iu2019ve been trying to get my father signed up with Medicare since February. Itu2019s now April 2nd and keep calling to end this nightmare. Iu2019ve been hung up on (put in a complaint but never got call abt complaint) I was told to fax over a form to sign up for Part A even though I know he was already on Part A. The customer service person stated she could just push a button on her end to sign him up with Medicare but couldnu2019t till form was scanned in. I was told it would take a couple of days to scan in. NOT!!! I called back to be told a different story that it would take up to 2 weeks. So I waited and called back. Finally form was scanned in but.... Was informed by a different customer service that he already had Part A and form was not necessary. Also he was signed up as general enrollment not special enrollment which was wrong. I was transferred to a person that could fix issue but got voicemail of a entirely different person then named by customer service. I left message with this person but heard nothing back. I called back to extension the next day left message per instructions and heard nothing back. Now dealing with a government entity was always a hit and miss. Now that everyone is remote it is 100% miss. Iu2019m calling back now and hope to get issue resolved then applying for job with SS because you get paid for not having to do your job.

They expect you to make a name change through the mail, and include your original drivers license!? What a JOKE! how are people supposed to just plop their drivers license into an envelope when they have to be to work!? Open your building back up this is ridiculous, people are getting scammed and important legal documents are being lost in the mail. Everyone is open but the ss office. What's going on here?? Terrible service over phone and no help!
