HORRIBLE SERVICE! 1) you have to know your social security number to apply for a replacement card. 2) good luck getting ahold of anyone at all at any office. 3) the automated call program hangs up on you. 4) when I finally found paperwork with my social security number on it, the websitecouldn't verify my informationand suspended my access to the site for 24 hours. This is absolutely ridiculous.

the website says Open so we drove to the office, but there is a cop inside. I said are you closed? He said read the sign on the door. There are many signs on the door so I read through them only to discover they are not open so we leave. I call the number and get a loud beeping noise-I suppose it's to annoy me and make me go away. So I wait to try and contact someone. Very Frustrating!

I am trying to replace my daughter's social security card. She is under 18, so I need to fill out paperwork for her. They have a drop box where you can submit that paperwork with the original documents needed. In this case, I had to submit her passport and birth certificate. I did that on September 3, and I have heard literally nothing from the office. When I called in mid-October, they said they can't find it. It's not being processed. It just simply doesn't exist according to their records. I leave a voice-mail with the supervisor, and I'm still waiting for a call back after a week.nnTL;DR: This office lost my daughter's birth certificate and passport and won't return my calls.

The local office in Ames is open to the public. However, there is a limit on how many people can be there at one time, and a mask is required.

I called ahead to make sure I was bringing all the correct paperwork with me and Amber was very quick and friendly. Thank you

I already made the appointment at the office and they told me that I would receive my ssn in two weeks, it's been 1 month and a half and I didn't receive it, they don't answer the phone. terrible!

Waited on hold for over 30 minutes, finally got on the phone with someone named Bee who was super rude. She basically denied everything the SS website said is their policy and told me good luck on getting what I need.

When you call, prepare to be on hold for 10+ minutes. And, worse, their hold music is pure torture. Imagine a slightly techno-feel from the early 80's dubbed from the radio onto an audio cassette with the treble turned up way too high; then, overlay that with a recording of hammers pounding on a metal barrel.nnIt seems like they make their hold music so bad on purpose so you'll just give up waiting and hang up.

Omg!! I applied for my new SSC October 15th and I JUST got a letter saying that I applied for it on November 5th.. are you kidding me?! Please explain why it takes a month to even submit an application?? It was all filled out ahead of time. I know government takes a while to process things but to take that long to submit it is ridiculous! It was only supposed to take 10 days!!

My case worker totally ignored my calls and never responded to my voicemail. I had an appointment with Joel Gau only to get there and be told he hadotherappointments!!! What? What am I chopped liver? I had an appointment ALSO which was made a week prior because he wasn't returning my calls. It's stressful enough dealing with Social Security but to be ignored on top of that is unprofessional and disrespectful.

Waited with my wife for a new social security card. Skipped calling our number and we ended up having to walk out. Everyone working talked to people as if they were not intelligent.

Literally an hour long wait to be told I need to call a different number

courteous service very efficient, well adjusted creative staff< negative comments I see here about people having their way. SS follows their rules it is required of them, those rules are there to protect the public from fraud. I suspect there is a lot of that and that cuts down on the money for people who deserve it.
