Called four other SS offices trying to get a question answered, had dropped calls or was left on hold for almost an hour. The East St Louis office picked up in less than two minutes and was so pleasant in helping with my questions!

I am currently being held liable for an SSI overpayment that happened from 82u2019 to 91u2019. That puts the overpayment beginning when I was 4 and continued until I was 13. My father was not a good father. He is now deceased and my mother has memory loss. They said they u201cassumeu201d the extra money went towards my benefit. If you count my dad going out every night being on drugs and getting drunk, than yeah. SSI should know better than to u201cassumeu201d something like this. The total I am being forced to pay back is $18600.00. I currently survive off of my once monthly disability payment. Now with them wrongfully taking money out of my disability I am severely struggling to pay bills/medical expenses/medicine. Two of the many medicines are required to live. Iu2019m picking and choosing what I get and going days before getting some refilled. You should feel protected by your own government. Mine is taking money I donu2019t have for something my deceased father did over 30 years ago. This just makes me feel sick and saddened.

I went to this Social Security office when I lost my social security card because it was the only one I could get to without having to take time off work. It was easy to get to; security was excellent (polite & thorough, but not intimidating); the staff was exceptionally friendly; my wait time was reasonable (and I went towards closing time); and the facility was clean & comfortable. Don't let the location turn you off - I didn't feel unsafe about myself or my vehicle at all.

You donu2019t get any help there at all. They keep putting you on hold and never come back. Then they hung up.
    Belinda Harris
They need a drop box because I sent items there and nobody can find them. I had to send in paperwork because someone who works there changed my birthday in the system, now Iu2019m stuck in limbo because of them.

I've been trying to call them back for a week now at the number provided! When I do someone answers the phone and does not speak. Then eventually hangs up! I recently moved to Ohio and gave Ohio the information that Illinois needed. So I wish they would leave me alone and let my new office handle my case! Because they can't even answer the phone correctly here!
