Be careful when calling this location. I spoke to a woman this morning regarding a correction on my social security card. She repeatedly told me that I had to mail in my actual drivers license as my request was not eligible to receive an in-person appointment. We went back and forth as it clearly states on the SSA website not to mail in important identification such as your license, ID, or passport.nnI asked how is that even possible? I'm supposed to drive around without my license because I had to mail it in? She said they return it within two weeks. I assumed she was new and not properly trained so I hung up and called the Decatur location. Not only did they ask the appropriate questions, I received an in-person appointment for next week.nnBe very careful and trust your gut. I cannot fathom how many people who probably mail in their IDs because of the false information being given over the phone. Just messy!

I have had the worst experience. My mother recently passed unexpectedly. I have two brothers with special needs. I am simply trying to step in and help them. I have been hung up on several times after waiting for a long time to be helped. It seems to have a pattern. I feel like I am getting hung up on because my issue requires too many steps. Today I was yelled at by a rep. She only changed her attitude towards me once she remembered the call was being recorded. This particular office has been so rude to me I have wanted to give up. Not to mention that these reps know my mother died and proceed to still treat me rudely. I feel punished for trying to help.

I have to give this office a positive review. I recently got married and changed my name twice in the last year. On both accounts this office has processed my request and returned my original documents within 14 days. I even received a phone call from the processing agent when she needed clarification. I was nervous to send off my original documents, but on both instances I had no issues or problems. Thank you SS office.

They did not pick up the phone no matter how long and for how many days I tried. You cannot walk-in and you cannot schedule an appointment online. So here we are, trying and trying and waiting for a social security card that never arrived and I still do not know why because I do not manage to speak with a human in the phone!nTerrible service, would be so easy to allow taking appointments online (or hire more workes to answer the phone)

Literally have called 6 times now over the course of 3 hours to simply schedule a time for an appointment to change my name (to my married name). Been on hold time and again for spouts of 30+ minutes. Yet, theyu2019re only accepting appointments for visits and you canu2019t schedule appointments online. This is an absolute shame and Iu2019m disgusted that we are in 2022 and still canu2019t get our s*** together. Way to go America. ud83dudc4fud83cudffb

Upd: I called them twice, after 1,5 h of holding I managed to get an answer that I DONu2019T NEED an appointment, now they do walk-ins. So I came, and the security guy says u201csorry that was misinformation, we donu2019t do walk-ins. But thereu2019s another location that does, you should go thereu201d. So I go there. And guess what? They donu2019t do walk-ins. Fantastic work, guys, keep going!

Going to the Social Security office used to be a nightmare but with the appointment system they put in, they have improved the customer experience by 1000%. Virtually no wait time and the staffs are very nice. The team has done the great job and hope they continue to do appointment only model post Covid.

No sass. The people here are kind and friendly. 10/10 would recommend this SSA office. Also, thank you for swiftly processing my request.

Mr. James is amazing. He educated myself and a group of moms on SSI and the difference in benefits. He was patient and kind. When or if he didnu2019t understand specific terminology, he took his time and articulated the information in a way we understood and so that we could retain it.

One of the most failed government offices ever! First of all donu2019t bother calling no one will answer and when they do they probably donu2019t know how to do their job. They will give you any excuse not to schedule your appointment. Second if you are lucky to schedule an appointment you have to face the inefficient institution who will make any excuses for you not to get your job done. My recommendation donu2019t bother coming to this location. The staff doesnu2019t care the just sit and make up any reason not to see you.

Although there was a bit of a wait on the phone, I reached someone who was incredibly helpful. I had sent in a form and my marriage certificate to change my name 2 weeks prior, and was looking to confirm it had arrived at the office. I happened to connect with a woman who was working in the office (lucky me!) and she was willing to look through stacks of mail to make sure my envelope had made it safely. Changing your name is stressful enough, and her help was so appreciated.

MR. JAMES is truly ONE of a kind! I could rant about how amazing this human being is for hours. He has made this process a million times Easier by educating me on SSI from start to finish. Making sure I understand my responsibilities as a parent of a child receiving benefits. Anytime Iu2019ve had questions, they are HAPPILY answered in a timely fashion, with patience, followed by ensuring that I fully comprehend. Naturally, I was worried & anxious about initiating the application for benefits, and what stressors would be triggered during the duration of the remainder of the process. He is professional, kind & patient. He possesses and displays the very qualities that are needed to perform the duties of this job. The city of Atlanta, and our community is lucky to have such an extraordinary representative that cares about our community which is soooo needed right now.nMR.JAMES my 4 year old son appreciates & thanks you for all of your patience & passion!n#MOMMOB

I called around 6/15 for copy of my son social security card. I was told to mail my passport and his old birth certificate with seal. I did. I received his social and never received my other documents. I have called 6 times of the last several weeks and been told a supervisor would call me. However, no one has called me. I guess they lost my things and are ignoring me. DO NOT SEND ANY OF YOU INFORMATION TO THEM. It will possibly get lost and they will give you the run around. I have yet to receive a call from anyone. This ridiculous and completely unprofessional.

I have been calling the office for 3 months trying to get my daughters social security card that they u201csent to the wrong addressu201d and when I finally get someone on the phone she hung up on me while I was asking a question. So now Iu2019m back to square one. Their phone service workers are the worst.

0 customer service. You have to call to make an appointment but the thing is no one ever answers the phone. I'm sure every employee is sitting around riding the clock talking and eating. There should be a way to make an appointment online knowing SSA employees are trash. Just fire everyone and start over.

This review is for a young lady thatu2019s the Assistant, Mrs.E.Harris, I was very pleased with the level of professionalism she gave! This process has been very challenging being the previous contact made was unprofessional and the phone tag was a nightmare, I just wanted to give up! Mrs.E. Harris was refreshing and totally helped me understand the process and what to expect for the next step! Itu2019s awesome when you come across someone that knows their job!

Pandemic is over, they donu2019t even answer the phone since itu2019s a phone appointment only, they make you wait 25 mins plus and then never answer

wait times are unimaginable, few workers lift and cut the call in between, like bruh. so hard to call them again and wait another 30 mins.

I have been working with the SSA since Feb to get my mum signed up for Medicare. Most of the folks were helpful but we had a challenge because she was signed up for Part B but not Part A. I finally got hold off the most spectacular agent Ms Umana. She took the time to understand my case, research it and then called me back with a full explanation and ensured my mum got signed up. I am truly grateful for people like her who care.

I have been trying to get my disability claim processed for almost 2 years and have NEVER experienced such neglect and incompetence that I have with this office! Whether it had been their lack of follow up, failure to request records, to the utter refusal to answer the phone, this office needs investigation! I've done all paperwork required and anything else needed as well as contacting my congressman but still they have failed to properly handle my claim. I suppose their motto is that they don't care if someone should have their benefits or not!!

Horrible service - an understatement. If I could rate 0, I would.nWeu2019ve been trying to reach this office for several weeks. We have a matter that can only be done in an in-person appointment. Hold times are forever and most of the time the phone is never picked up. When I would get lucky and someone would finally pick up, they hung up on me. One gentleman picked up and I explained that an in-person appointment was needed, he replied u201ccanu2019t do thatu201d and proceeded to immediately hang up on me.nEventually, we were able to manage to get an in-person appointment. Then I arrived at the office on the day and time of our scheduled appointment to be only told that they did NOT have my name on the list. Security would not let me go in for my appointment. Plus, there were several other people in the same situation that had made appointments but were not allowed in.nI had to go through the whole ordeal again. Today, I arrived for my appointment, again, and Mr. Williams was the one who handled it, except he didn't process it and did NOT provide me with a receipt. I asked him to please provide me with a receipt as I will need it and the whole point of the appointment was to expedite the process and be able to get a receipt on the same day. He refused to do so. I explained to him that the district manager, Edward Meechum advised me I would be provided a receipt on the day of my appointment. Without explanation, Williams still refused to give me one. His condescending tone topped off the already horrible last several weeks.nnWhat a frustrating experience. There is definitely no excuse for this kind of treatment. Peoplesu2019 lives are on hold with things that can only be handled/resolved by the Social Security office.

I had a great experience with Ms. Bascomb this morning. She answered the phone courteously and helped me with several questions I had. She was great and I happy I FINALLY got though. One tip: Call before they open like 8:59am by the time you go though the prompts it will be 9:00am and more likely your call will be answered.

Update: I called back & spoke with Ms. Umana. This woman deserves a promotion ASAP ! She really took her time to help me all while being pleasant. Because of her my issue will finally be resolved ! Thanks so much ! God bless her.nnEverybody sounds like they hate their job, they wonu2019t try to help you & they are extremely rude, they clearly need help. Theyu2019re closed to the public while the malls, clubs, and hair salons are wide open. Thanks SSA you guys are such a waste !

After three months of back and forth trying to change my son's name, Miss Umana finally was able to GET IT DONE! I had sent in documents multiple times since September 2020, only to call up after no word to be told more documents needed to be sent or that they couldn't find the ones that I had sent. I am so glad that Miss Umana answered when I called today. She was super helpful and worked diligently on the phone with me for an hour to scour the databases and records to find everything that I had sent in and match it all up. She did the final application with me on the phone to make sure that it was done before we hung up. SHE IS MY HERO!!!
