Finally the office is open without an appointment. I was there by 9, very short wait without an appointment. In and out by 20 mins. Very efficient and security guard help for the checking process to speed up the time.nThe only thing is that parking lot is quiet small so be prepared to wait for the parking or park on the street.

Today I went to the social security office and had a great experience. I was able to park right in front of the office (limited parking available on the premises). The security officer at the door was extremely proactive and guided me to obtain a ticket for the purpose of my visit. There were just a few people ahead of me and the wait time was just 20 mins.nnOnce my turn came, it took just 5 mins to get everything processed and I was my way out (I submitted an online application before the visit). The SS employee who helped me was efficient in her work. Overall had a great experience and the best experience so far at an SS office.nnThank you for helping today and keep up the great work!

Perfect for dropping off viral paperwork completed at home. Internal security guard is wonderfully helpful & great at directing flow of international students, disabled/ interabled adults & confused applicants who know what they need but always disorganized (me!!).nI've been sent this quiet Aero drive location numerous times, I always leave two steps ahead but not with exactly what I need. If you can go down to First/ Front Ave early, highly recommend....

Changing my name after getting married had really been hanging over my head, but the security guard made the process really easy! Yes, it is appointment-only, but you can also just fill out the application and include your documents in a secure envelope, and it will be processed in 2-3 business days. I sat in my car to fill out the application, put in the marriage license and my passport, and now am patiently waiting! They will even text you when your documents can be picked up and your card will be mailed to you directly. Woohoo ud83dudc4fud83cudffcnEdit - as info, I got married out-of-state, which is why I needed to go through this process. If you get married in CA and live here too, you can change your name as part of the marriage application process.

This place is a NIGHTMARE!!!! Iu2019ve never had the displeasure of dealing with government employees this bad EVER!nnI have done everything asked of me. The only SSA human being I can get to is through the National 800 line, only to be redirected to deal with my local office on Aero Drive. Iu2019m ready to contact a lawyer!!!nnIu2019ve called and called u2026 probably 40-50 times since December 2021. I have been unable to get anyone on the phone. Iu2019ve dropped physical documents off with no response. I am tracking every call made. This office is the absolute worst. I understand circumstances have changed with Covid-19, but come on!!!! People need their local office to function on more than this!!!

Overall the Aero Dr staff are very good and helped me with a lot of things. Why can I say that? I've used this very office for over 15 years. Yes, there are a fewbad applesbut after going through over 2 years of HELL because the state (not SSA) issued a bogus medical report, things are fixed. Filed notice of appeal Feb 2020 and staff gave me all the proper forms. Came back the next day and appeal was all set -then came COVID.nnRecently, I had face to face (not phone) appointment with the Disability Hearing Officer and two days letter got the decision letter from the officer. The bogus state medical report was thrown out, the 2020 decision overturned, and no further SSI medical inquiries for the next 8 years.nnThe COVID pandemic has screwed a lot of us over who use SSA. They are getting back on track but just try to be patient. If you are appealing a decision like I was then ask for in-person hearing rather than by phone one. I'm glad I did.nnIt's been confusing if everything is by appointment only or walk-ins are OK. I asked if I need an appointment to bring my revised trust documents and walk ins are back. No appointment needed but try to avoid Mondays or Tuesdays after Presidents, Memorial, and Labor Days. Remember masking is mandated of everyone, both I and the Disability Hearing Officer were, so if you are high risk for COVID like me they are following common sense protocols.nnThe parking lot is small and it's easier to street park on Afton Rd. If you can't drive or ride share is too much, bus route 25 is an option that stop at the office.

I followed your instructions and called to make an appointment. After 44 minutes on hold listening to elevator music and prerecorded apologies about the wait time, the line went silent but stayed connected. Nothing. No music. No prerecorded messages. After another 6 minutes of waiting without any sound from you, I disconnected the call (clearly still connected and counting the time elapsed since calling on my Samsung Galaxy s21). Do you have any idea how much that sucks? Do you even care a little bit? I highly doubt it.

Needing to apply for Medicare through SS and have been trying to get through for days. All I get is a busy signal from my local office. After contacting the regional office in Pennsylvania, 1hour on hold, I was told there was nothing they could help me with, the representative then hung up on me!

This site on Aero Drive fails to provide necessary services to the disabled community dependant upon them. The incompetence is beyond shameless -- it's criminal. The health and safety of SSI recipients are endangered as they struggle for help that isn't provided. Calls, emails and letters go unanswered for MONTHS while a disabled person has suffered a mistaken interruption in payments. I have personally watched a catastrophically brain injured man try to talk to anyone about why his rightful and necessary disability funds have gone MIA. Three months spent trying unsuccessfully to get an emergency appointment to fix whatever went wrong. Three months with NOTHING and unable to care for himself. This rises to the level of criminal negligence, in my opinion.

It would have been great if their website had provided clear instructions on what you need to do when dropping off applications instead of having an appointment. I saw a lot of people making multiple trips up to the door with the security guard trying to help them get everything packaged correctly so they could drop off. Not a very efficient system for drop off and with a few simple instructions on the website or on the phone message this could all be avoided.

Super fast with an appointment was in an out less then 10 minutes. They also have a drop off box for those without any appointments

Office is closed for walk-ins and this is a hassle, but the worst is the security guard that comes at 9:00am to inform about it to the public. People with kids, elder people and others that were waiting in the cold deserve at least Politeness!

This office is so terrible with customer service. My mother received a letter for an interview at a specific time via phone call. We waited and waited and again no phone call (2nd time it happened) So I decided to call them myself wondering why we haven't been contacted. An agent answered after I was on hold for a long time, only to be told your mother's appointment will be tomorrow. Really? No apologies or explanation as to why you didn't call us? We totally understand that your office is terribly busy, short staff due to pandemic but do understand too that your office is dealing with seniors and those who block dates on their calendars just to be available for your interview. The job itself is not only to answer questions, provide information etc. but to provide if not exemplary, at least GOOD customer service!

Iu2019m giving 5 stars for customer service. Both the guard at the building and the man I spoke with on the phone were very kind. I didnu2019t get anything done, but my situation isnu2019t dire so itu2019s ok. Iu2019ll just wait til later. I just appreciate the way I was spoken to by all involved.nnTo set expectations, this location is not open for walk-in service. You can to call to make an appointment, and theyu2019ll only accept those with a dire situation or first-time social security card applications.

Called, no one picked up, said transferring to agent. Kept on ringing.nHeld on for 40 minutes then hung up. Same thing happened in the morning, held on for 35 minutes.n.worst service ever had.

I have been in an endless loop over the phone trying to speak with a live person. Itu2019s frustrating because they are not open for walk ins and this has been two whole business days of trying to get a hold of a live person at this location. And I was told by SSA general number that I had to speak to someone at that specific location since thatu2019s where my documents were mailed to. I wish this process was easier than this. People like myself only have limited amount of days to take care of these things because I work full time. I just wish I could get some answers this is very important. I cannot even get through to a person to make an appt to go in the office. What should I do? Any advice is good advice at this point

The security guy he's going he best, he always try to help you the best way possible, and in general service is really good and it's not packed

COVID 19 doesnu2019t allow in person visits so I sent them my legal documents, and the office lost them. They lost my birth certificate, drivers license, social security card and legal documents. I have proof someone in office signed for them. Awful location with zero accountability for their actions. Avoid at all costs.
    Grace Prodigalidad
I had no problems, only waited 5 minutes. The man who answered was very polite. I told him my problem, he verified it was me, put me on hold for 2 minutes and came back and told me he flagged my account like I asked. Very good experience ?
    Deanna
Security guard was helpful. Couldnu2019t get ahold of anybody for over an hour on the phone, and the automated bot would end the call on me six of the other attempts I made to schedule an appointment.

Great, fast and easy. Just make sure all your information is spelled correctly

I had a surprisingly positive experience when I applied for my Social Security benefits. The man who helped me gave me very useful information on what the best time to start the benefits was. He also explained that my wife and minor daughter were eligible for benefits and helped me set them up. I was afraid that it would be the typical bureaucratic runaround, but my appointment took less than half an hour for the first meeting, and about the same for my second meeting when I went to verify my wife's and daughter's benefits. I'm not a shill - if my experience had been negative, you'd be reading about that.

First time in my life I have ever had to go to a Social Security Administration office.nnOther than the 2-hour wait...Lesson learned as I came during the first week of the month and the agent, Maurice, who helped me said that is the busiest / craziest week to come becauseeveryoneis there who has issues with their checks. He also recommended making an appointment for any future visits....Duly noted.nnYes the parking area is tight as others have noted but I easily found places to park on the surrounding streets and within a minute or two walk.nnMaurice was AWESOME. Very patient in answering my questions, giving me a printed handout of my situation...He answered all my questions plus additional helpful information.nnAlso, and I am sure he does not get many props but the armed security officer did a nice job too....how pleasant it is to go to a place in this day and age where you do not have to listen to other people talk on their mobile phones(must go outside to do that), no screaming kids running around, no pets...I thoroughly enjoyed the silence so to speak. He was forceful in his verbal reinforcement of the rules for being in there but not over the top i.e. pleasant reminders if you will.nnLook, this is not a drive-through situation...by and large, it is not going to be a quick process. Come prepared with what you need to know and be PATIENT. There were people who had hearing challenges so it takes longer for them to review and clarify their situations to name one example. Everyone is entitled to have proper attention provided to them.

By appointments only. Doesn't specify online. It says appointments only at the door . Took 2 hours on the phone to book appointment. By phone calls only !

This is the worse office. My Mom is 85 years old that can't walk. So I had to take her with me. The security guards there we're brutal & rude. What is happening to this country.

I guess it depends on When you go and which Agent you get. When I went it wasn't crowded at all -- and I couldn't of had a nicer, more informative and helpful agent. Definitely broke the government agency stereotype.nnBUT--- there should be more than One 800 number to call. One hour wait is the norm! Insane! That has to change.

Worst attention, I am currently undergoing Leukemia treatment and have received letters to extend benefits. However I have left multiple messages over the past 2 months and have never received a call. I called the main office and someone picks up the phone and then places the call on hold with answering.

It is very very rare to find someone there at the downtown location who treats you respectfully & who truly & genuinely wants to help you. But, I've had nightmare situations at the downtown location. One lady there in the past was a blessing & helped me & I was truly grateful! Now that I am going through yet another unfortunate & unnecessary situation, I decided to go to the Kearny Mesa branch. I am extremely fortunate to have found someone who truly cares & sincerely wants to help me. It's very sad & disturbing the way some of the employees talk to you & belittle you in the back at the downtown branch. The world should not be this way. We are all people trying to survive. We have fallen into hardships & did not ask to be put there or could control it. We have feelings & dreams, just like you. I dread going to the social security office. It's absolutely terrifying! I'm just grateful the people at the Kearny Mesa location have treated me so kindly & understandably! One lady in particular has been in my prayers every night! Good luck to you!

I received an email regarding my application for SS to begin this year (turning 70). I thought I would start it a month early, just for convenience sake and didn't know what my earnings record was. The email ask me to contact Ms. Zhen with a direct phone line. She picked up the call and we had a very good conversation. She told me that, by waiting to the month of my birthday, I would receive another $100 per month. Thank you!nnI also called her later to discuss how to file for withholding on the payment. She directed me through it. NO COMPLAINTS!
