This place is horrible! CLOSED DUE TO COVID??!!? But workers in the building, securitysitting at a desk half asleep won't get up to even answer a question. It says call the 1-800 number to make a appt, you call and stay on hold for almost a hour for someone to answer and say they are closed... As I'm sitting here the supposed security man hasn't got up 1 time and about 20 people tried to get in but he comes chasing some woman out of the building to stay she took the pen from their drop box!! This is our social security dollars at work! What a shame! You almost can't make this stuff up!!

This is by far the worst u201c Governmentu201d facility I have dealt with. I moved to Alabama from Texas, transferred my two kids disability and without any information from ME this Agency then proceeded to start decreasing my daughters disability. Why? They claim she gets child supportu2026 I do EVERY NOW and then and NOT the amount they are claiming! And when I tried to call to figure out how they got this information ( again I have not provided any documentation) someone will pick up the phone and just sit there and not say a word!!! I have also sent in 2 written Appeals and havenu2019t heard anything about that either!!! Anytime I have talked to someone each person has an attitude. And I for one think that if you work for this agency you SHOULD NOT be allowed to act that way!!

My experiences with Huntsville social security administration have been overwhelmingly positive. Before the pandemic, service was rapid and courteous for walk-ins. During the pandemic, a reasonable amount of time spent on hold and having a phone conversation to determine if an in-person appointment was necessary (it was) and making the appointment. The appointment was efficient and polite. I've had plenty of less than enjoyable experiences with the DMV and other gov branches in Huntsville, but SSA stands head and shoulders above the rest in terms of politeness, cleanliness, efficiency, and covid response.

No services offered, you are suppose to be able to call and make an appointment. I was on hold for over and hour and hung up on multiple times before finally calling and speaking to someone only to say they donu2019t do any appointments even though per ssa.gov you are told you are able to make appointments. Only to have the representative hang up on me when I asked if there was any way to make an appointment

Donu2019t be fooledu2026. No one really works here. Drop box overstuffed I couldnu2019t even put my paperwork in it. Guard sleeping at the desk with the doors locked. Lights off in the middle of the day. Horrible waste of tax payer money. A real picture of Government waste. Go to Decatur instead.. youu2019ll have better luck.

The staff were very efficient and friendly. Just walked in, showed my documents and the lady was very helpful.

They make people feel like a criminal. This place is horrible. From the man at the front to the window woman you see. Wait times are crazy and no one is nice.

How are you supposed to get through to anyone? I've tried for an entire week to call since it is phone services only but I wait for 15 minutes on hold and then get hung up on every. Single. Time. As soon as they pick up they hang up. So what now???

I went to the office, but I was told that I need to call in order to speak to a rep. I called and I was twice put on waiting for over 45 minutes. In both cases I was unable to talk to anybody. Same thing happened last year (Nov 2020). Are they actually offering services ?
    Heather Woodard
Canu2019t get in contact with anyone at this place. I honestly have no idea if itu2019s even functional. Iu2019ll be using Decaturu2019s SSA instead.

Literally cannot even get in touch with ANYONE. I was on the phone waiting for 20 minutes, and still no answer.

I sent paperwork in to have my dependent added to my social security back in August 2020 and received my personal documents back in November 2020. (The package is date stamped as proof and the social security documents were taken out showing someone indeed opened and read my package)nnIt is now Jan 2021 and they still havenu2019t added my dependent onto my profile. When I called they said they never received my paperwork and they were declining my request. I told them I had proof that I sent it in but they said it did not matter. I would still have to start this process all over.nnThis is outrageous. I understand COVID has made things slow but there is no excuse for the lack of professionalism and accountability this office has shown.

Best Government agency I have ever dealt with! The ladies I spoke with each time I have called were wonderful and resolved my issues immediately.

Had an appointment and showed up over 15 minutes early. Signed in got my customer number. Watched as 3 numbers after mine got called. Reported this to the Security Guard, who attempted to assist me. I was told my number could not be found in the system, but it was fixed. Then three more numbers after mine were called. Spoke once again to the Security Guard who took my number to the back and returned saying I would be seen soon. After two more numbers higher than mine were called and a wait of over 45 minutes, I was finally seen. One star the the Guard who tried to assist and the nice lady who helped with my problem. Overall this office failed miserably.

I have had the worst experience with the Huntsville Social security office, I Filled out a application for a name change back in September to let you know itu2019s been a month now. I called Friday 10/23/2020 they asked for more identification ok I sent that still havenu2019t processed my application, called yesterday morning they say we havenu2019t received the additional information you faxed called them again yesterday day evening they say itu2019s processed to get me off the phone. Ok called this morning the person I talked to yesterday lied about my application been processed so this morning they claim they are working on it. Believe me I am going to call again today and everyday two times a day until they process my application this doesnu2019t make any sense how hard and difficult can this be when they are working from home. I totally just donu2019t get it. As of this afternoon they are now saying they didnu2019t get my information that I faxed to them on Friday.

I was super upset yesterday with SS office. I was hung up on twice & I suspect it was the same gentleman I had each time. On the third call, I didn't get hung up on but put on hold for at least 10mins & then told he could not locate my paperwork, paperwork sent two weeks ago!! I was trying to conduct business & yet I feel i received POOR service.

I went in on Friday around 1pm to get a new card since I had gotten married. I did have all my paperwork ready before I came. I was seen after ten minutes and out the door in less than 5 minutes after that. Very polite and helpful service! Very pleased

I went in to request a new social security card after my marriage. I had found the new card form online and brought all requested papers and IDs.nnAt the office, I signed in using the computer kiosk and was given a ticket. I had barely got settled into a chair in the waiting room when my ticket number flashed on the screen.nnThe woman who processed my paperwork was friendly and professional. She seemed surprised that I had prepared the form before I arrived at the office and the form seemed to make the process go more quickly. She answered all my questions and even called me by my married name, which made me happy, and I was back in the car and on my way home in less than ten minutes.nnI just wanted to share my experience since I couldn't find much info before I went! I hope this helps!

Phone service or by appointment only, but nobody answers the phones. It's impossible to get any help. What I need has to be done in person, but I can't seem to get anyone to answer so that I can make an appointment.

I went in to change my name after our wedding, on a Wednesday when they close at noon. Got there at 10:30, had my paperwork ready, got a wait-in-line ticket and was out in no more than 20 minutes. Very professional atmosphere and a simple but nice waiting area.

If I could give less than one star I would... I have been treated disrespectful, repeatedly! I live in Scottsboro and since I lost my car while waiting on my SSDI hearing, my only means of dealing with the SSA is by phone. I have been hung up on by one person that couldnu2019t answer my questions and when I called back, I got her again (after another 20min of hold time.) She stated u201cI have a high call volume and canu2019t talku201d and hung up on me again. I have been told that this local SSA office would release multiple back payments and those have been lies. They once said u201cwe will release a payment every day until the entire amount of the back pay had been paid out.u201d That didnu2019t happen and when I called back, the supervisor u201cJenniferu201d said it wasnu2019t true because they canu2019t release money but every 10 days. She proceeded to mock me by quoting things I had said out of frustration over the lies. One worker stated u201cweu2019re sick of you calling.u201d The last call made by me, they didnu2019t even verify my identity... This office is rude, and to say unprofessional is to underscore the serious state of this government entity! I have filed a formal complaint with the SSA and I will NOT drop this matter. Itu2019s a federal offense to threaten anyone with the SSA yet they can abuse their power by degrading, withholding, disrespecting, and lying to the public.

On Tuesday, Nov. 29, I went to the SSA office to request information on a letter I had received on Monday. I waited almost an hour (not too bad considering the number of people there waiting) to be seen by a Ms. Green(e)(sp). This young lady was very attentive to my questions and my concerns about the letter. She handled my situation in a very diplomatic manner and I am grateful for her attentiveness to my dilemma. Thank you Ms. Greene(e).

This office has literally been closed down to face-to-face assistance for over a year. This is a disservice to its very customer base.
    Cassady Nicole
The rudest most awful experience I've ever had they are so rude and hung up in my face. If I could give them no stars I would.
    Yolanda Sparks
Nobody seems to know anything. I called one time, and the lady said very rudely,I can't understand what you're saying ! That's not professional. Also, they like to pass the buck around. You have to go to the office to ask a simple question. They should be able to answer certain questions over the phone. Not enough windows staffed.
    April Brown
The lady I spoke with on the phone was very rude and kept interrupting me. She said that she didn't have to listen to anything that I said and then she hung up on me. I wish I knew her name so that I could report her to the office manager.
    Ronde Crenshaw
So so slow and inconsiderate. I've seen molasses move faster in the winter. Love giving people the run around. Everyone needs to be fired and replaced with better people!!!!! And another thing, why have 100 available windows with only 5 open? Dumb!!!
