I went to the 4701 Old Wake Forest Rd, Raleigh, NC 27609 location, as it is closest to me. I have called the local line fifteen times over the past few weeks with no response, so I decided to show up in person to see if I could speak with someone.nI arrived at the same time (12:45pm) as multiple others. No one attempted to assist us for 15 minutes and all individuals eventually left with one woman stating they had been calling for months and another man stated he dropped by because he couldnu2019t get someone on the phone. **Pattern recognition anyone?-see last review**nnFinally, a security guard came outside, and I explained that I had driven thirty minutes to see if someone could assist me in scheduling an appointment, as the phone has not been answered on numerous attempts. I was told they did not take appointments at the door and given u201cyou should try callingu201d advice. Clearly, this doesnu2019t work when there is a pattern of not answering the phone or attempting to answer inquiries in person.nI simply want to get a new social security card for my three-year-old, as it was lost during our move. Iu2019ve spent over 5 hours driving and calling to accomplish this with no results. There should at least be an online option to schedule and appointment, if the employees are tied up most of the day. I have never seen a business or government entity with a 100% dissatisfaction rate and witnessed this today, as everyone left without a resolution. Not one individual was successful in entering the building or being helped in a 30-minute span.

My daughter's SS card was lost by the post office. This happened in September and I still haven't been able to make an appointment. They were supposed to call me with a date and never did. I have only been able to get someone on the phone twice. Earlier today they hung up on me after the call went through. Luckily I have been able to make an appointment at the Hendersonville SS office, the person I talked to was very helpful and friendly. I advise everyone to go to a different SS office and DO NOT send in any documents because they will lose them or lie and say they returned them.

I have been trying to call the social security office since October ( it is now February) to schedule an appointment to change my name. But every time I call, they do not answer or either answer and immediately hang up. Today, I visited the office which appeared to not be that incredibly busy. I assume they are very understaffed do to COVID, which is annoying for them Iu2019m sure. But I explained to the social security officer that I would be more than happy to come back if I could just schedule an appointment today and return then. She would not allow me to make an appointment and said u201cyou just need to keep callingu201d. Iu2019m sorry, who has time to sit around and call the social security office all day? This is super inconvenient for everyone and something surely needs to change.

Terrible service, terrible support, terrible everything! Every single person I've talked already set the tone of what kind of workers are here. They do not want to assist you in any way, shape, or form. I've called everyday and waited for hours to speak with someone just to get told by an automated message that they cannot assist and the call disconnects. I was FINALLY able to speak with someone and they told me that no more appointments are being accepted and I need to try to go into the office. The only thing is that I'm getting the runaround! I went to the office and was told by security that its only appointment based. This place makes me sick and they should all be ashamed of themselves as they are playing with people's life! I get that you may not like your job but at the end of the day, your job is to service people. This place needs to be closed down and rebuilt with helpful staff. Judging from the other low scores, I can see that people have witnessed the same.

I originally had a hard time reaching someone by phone. Once I did, they told me that they weren't taking appointments for name changes and that I would have to mail in my documents. I sent my application via certified mail on a Monday and had my original documents back by the end of the week, with a letter stating that my application was being processed. I received my new card the following week. It was a super-fast turnaround time!

It is hard to reach them by phone to schedule an appointment. You do need to spent some time. But when you're in, the staff tries their best to provide the service in the given circumstances (COVID-19). My experience was excellent: I've spent 10-15 minutes and all staff were super friendly.nI advise to do your homework before visit. e.g. I've checked their website for the info, prepared all the required documents and filled in the paper application in advance.

Can't walk in without an appt, only can call and wait on phone. When you call no one answers the phone and eventually the line hangs up. i faxed in a part b application over 2 months ago. i have not received a confirmation and am still waiting for some type of notification regarding my application. About to have no insurance as i am retiring . Completely unacceptable service. if i could give zero stars, i would. i understand other offices are not this awful.

Worst location ever, Social security was not a pleasant place before the pandemic, but now with the no walk in policy and having to suffer either to deliver documents (which they loose and claim they never received it, even faxes they claim it wasnu2019t delivered) and never sending the warning letters or your documents back. Not to mention the hold on the phone, if you get lucky to not being hung up on after 2 hours on hold!! The attitude of the employees treating you like a beggar!!! This is hell, Social Security has to make changes, at least to give us the option to use multiple locations.

After calling numerous times to try and get a new card for a name change, I finally got an appt in February. I kept calling to find out the status which the call kept getting routed to other SS offices who couldnu2019t help me. I finally got a hold of someone after weeks of calling only to be told they canu2019t find my paperwork I submitted almost 2 months ago. Now I have to make another appt to do the same thing they should have done in February. This is unacceptable.

Government at its worst. Impossible to reach them on phone at any time of the day. They did not respond to a letter I sent 2 months ago. Covid is no excuse. All their work can be done from home. You can only get office visit by appointment. Catch-22. Very very frustrating.

After being unable to reach anyone on the phone, I went I to the office on old wake forest road. I was advised I would not be able to do an in-person appointment for a name change due to Covid and to just mail in the forms. I did as instructed (certified mail) and have been waiting over 2 months for any sort of confirmation of receipt of my documents or the actual name change itselfu2026 nothing. Of course am unable to get ahold of anyone on the phone and am barred from walking in. Guess Iu2019ll just abandon my name change until Iu2019m person appointments are accepted again.

Be prepared to call back multiple times after having the call automatically ended. Waited 3+ hours and called 3 times. Finally got someone less than 15 minutes before the office closed. Granted, the person I got a hold of was helpful with the info she gave me, it feels like this location is severely understaffed.

Tried 4 months ago to change the name on my SS card. Sent in driver's license and court papers. Called multiple times and was hold for anywhere between 2-5 hours. Was told the documents had been lost to call back in a week. I did and again got the message documents were lost call back in a week. Tenth time I called I was told the documents were sent to me and must have been lost in the mail. Left a message for supervisor with no response. Service is horrible!

I have been trying to call to get an appointment since Tuesday, each time I get routed through to the wrong office and I am apparently unable to visit any other office because I am in Cary... I need to update my name with SS in order to get my NC license so I can register my car, I cannot get that taken care of until I do this. This is so ridiculous. I am willing to wait as long as I need to on the phone to get an appointment, I can't do that if I keep getting rerouted to other offices because I then have to hang up and start all over again! I am not willing to send in any documents through the mail due to the negative reviews of items being lost, taking months to be returned, or hearing nothin at all. I don't have time to wait months.

Spoke withShadow(nice name by the way) after waiting for 20 mins. She was INCREDIBLY rude. We called to say that the SSA website says you have to go online to make an appointment for a name change. Her response -I had this argument with the last caller and I'm looking right at it.There's absolutely no reason for her to be so nasty. Good to know these are the people in charge of managing our social benefits! I'd rate the experience 0/5 if I was able - just going to have to show up at the office and have someone say this to my face vs. being an a$$hole behind a phone.

Extremely frustrating to work with... have been trying to get my name changed for a year now. I keep getting different instructions from different people on what to do -- each time I do it, I get my application back stating that it was denied. There is almost zero way to get ahold of someone on the phone. Oh... and not to mention that they lost my passport too!
    Silena Dunaway
Itu2019s a shame that not only have I had to wait years to be approved, but my benefits are stuck at the payment center. My attorney and I both experienced long hold time. This is utterly ridiculous . Speaking to a representative who is knowledgeable is like finding a needle in a hay stack! Ve been holding for two hours now. I need what I am due, this has created a hardship as if I didnu2019t wait long enough to be approved!
    Dionte Gilchrist
They never take your calls or call you back. When documents are suppose to be mailed back in 7 to 10 business days. Its been almost 2 months and my wife still hasnt received her documentations back. If I could give 0 stars I would.
    Mohammad Alsalti
Took me a while to actually get a hold of the office. Called for about a week straight until I was able to get through. However, other than that, once I got in contact with someone it was pretty easy and straightforward to get an appointment.

95%, and this is me being nice, of the people who work at the social security office have nasty attitudes, are unfriendly, and treat people as if they are the reason they are so miserable. A little kindness goes a long way. If you don't want to help people than get it if the service industry because you are working with mostly the disabled population who need compassion and understanding not your trash attitudes.
    Janesblonde007
how can disabled people old people and so on the treated with such disrespect as being hung up on without merit I don't use foul words and I don't get angry he simply ask the questions. This was my third call to Social Security to get an award letter which I never received and it has been a week and a half now. I had to displeasure of talking to a Ms Shadow I asked you for an emergency appointment because my life is on hold due to this award letter I can't get another living quarters or I can't send in paperwork to the hospital she then said that's not an emergency oh my life is on hold but that's not an emergency. Then she claims then I could go to this Social Security website and print off a letter she didn't know how to get there or where it was located on the web page and then we went on with a discussion and she hung up on me without I was on hold for 15 minutes by the way without even asking me if she can help me in another way anyways Ms. shadow.ud83dudc4eud83dude35ud83eudd2e

To be fair, posting this review before I have had a chance to speak with anyone. But this is my second phone call after waiting for over 30 minutes. First call went into an endless ring where I finally had to end it and start over calling back into the queue. Now, they have answered and hung up on me. Over an hour in and still I have not spoken to a person.
    Alex S
I have been calling them for two weeks and either getting a busy signal on the first ring, or waiting on hold for 30 minutes and being hung up on. Over and over again, every day. Does anyone even work here? Does your phone system even work? It is places like this that turn people into radical libertarians.
    Evan Lowery
Hard to believe that peoples salaries you pay with your taxes can be the most unpleasant, irrational and assigning people you have ever met. If itu2019s really that bad, why donu2019t you just stay home and live off unemployment.

Everywhere agencies are using the pandemic as an excuse to do way less but if you have 3 workers and they each help people instead of giving the run around you might actually be useful! I can tell there must not be any type of consequences for mistreatment of Customers nor are you recording your calls if you did then maybe the rep would have done her job instead of hanging up on me ! YOU NEED TO TAKE APPOINTMENTS FOR ALL NEEDS NOT JUST IF YOU GET A SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK !!! Useless place ! I would give 0 stars if I could !
    Jason Lyoo
Ha..... I'm currently calling to an agent for the past 50 minutes and 32 seconds after they told me to wait for a moment. By the time i took a screenshot and wrote this review, it was 55:32 calling. since the last week, no one is answering the call or they just hang up after 18 or 20 minutes past.nI'm so exhausted to call these people. If you ever want to call someone about your social security, please call somewhere else than here. Even a star is not worth to give them for.nCorrection, now 59 minutes and 17 seconds.nI'm quitting.

Calling and calling, hardly ever, no one picks up the phone!! It seems like no one wants to work!! I ended up going to the Office but a security gaurd at the door told me I couodn't be seen without an appointment, I called the number on the door and it wasn't in service???!? I mean y'all are the SSA, don't you think they would be fully staffed??!?
    C W
I know this is a government job, but people please do better by your customer service. Misguided information given to the public and trying to set up an appointment is a nightmare. These employees should be reprimanded for such poor service just like any other business. It's so unfortunate that so many people are forced to use their services. You get better service at the DMV imagine that!
    amanda stoughton
This office never answers the phone. I have called for days in between working and caring for a family. On hold for almost an hour. Ended up calling another countiesu2019 SS administration to find out basic information. Itu2019s impossible to make an appointment because no one answers the phone. Absolutely infuriating. Make sure you take off several days just to something simple such as name change.
    Thom Fishow
The pandemic has been hard on everyone and some of the constraints put on SSA regarding in-person meetings are probably unnecessary at this point, but the people I have worked with over the phone have been incredibly helpful and very friendly.
