This office should not be able to operate. I have called them every day for a month with no answer. It just rings until it hangs up on you. Do not waste your time trying to call them. I mailed in my original documents as you are required to do and they LOST MY DRIVER'S LICENSE. I know they received them because I received back the immunization record and birth certificate, then the application a couple weeks later which were all mailed in together with my license.

Truly wish I could give them 0 stars. I can't give any feedback because after an hour on hold no one ever answered the phone. Don't waste your time, call Alton. They were so friendly and answered within 2 minutes.

Dont even bother calling them! They will hang up on you after 15 minutes! Call the Alton office! I even went over there when they were supposed to be open and they were closed. No notes on the door directing you to other locations or the situation.

Horrible.nIf I could choose 0 stars I would, these people that work in this office have no idea what they are even speaking about. Their phone manners are nonexistent. They are lazy and uneducated. They have no business working for the government. Out right stupid even! No common courtesy no manners of any sort! Take care of your business elsewhere these people are no help!!

I tried showing up at the office to get help but the security guard turned me away and said I need to call for an appointment. I've been calling for over a week now and no one will answer.

Tried to drop something off in the drop box, but could not because the door to the drop box is locked. Was walking to my car and another person let me know the security guard wouldnu2019t let them drop off their documents either. And additionally let me know that despite the recording and posted hours saying that the office closes at 4pm the office actually closes at 2pm. Looks like our tax dollars are hard at work.

Terrible service. Called about some important missing documents and was talked down to the entire call. At the end of the call they said they mailed it and had no idea what to do about the lost documents I asked for a higher ups number and they hung up the phone. Terrible service I can not believe this office works the way it does.

I was new to the area and needed to get a copy of my social security card. I read the reviews and was worried. When I got there, the security guard was very helpful and told me what I needed to do. There were only 4 other people there. I didn't have to wait very long (5 minutes?) before my number was called. The lady was VERY HELPFUL and took care of my very quickly. She was very nice, helpful, and understanding. This is a great office, and I'm sure it gets busy (all government offices do at times) but it was not a bad experience. I got the help I needed and was out of there in 15 minutes!

Helpful woman on the phone. They are not open for in person visits unless it is a very important appointment.

My mind has changed about this place 100%.nThe staff was more than kind making sure my children got out of the cold immediately and also making sure I kept my place in line even though I had to get out of the line with my stroller as it was too big for the crowd.nThey got me in and out in ten minutes.nI have no clue how the security guard has bad reviews ... That man is very kind and soft spoken. Wonderful caring staff hands down.

Have been there 2 times over the past couple of months. The wait times haven't been bad and the clerks were friendly and helpful. The security guard is a fantastic guy. He was friendly and stern but respectful each time we were there.

The security guard is RUDE. He needs to work on his interpersonal skills. You can be firm and hold a position of authority without being rude. He talked terribly to an elderly man that just simply didn't understand what he was saying. As a law abiding, tax paying citizen you should be able to go into a government building without feeling like you're a criminal about to be incarcerated. For the record I just got married and needed to change my name. Not a good experience. I wish I would have just taken my chances and mailed my documents in. The lady that actually took care of me was nice, but by the time I got to her (90 mins later) I was already in a terrible mood.

Just spoke to a woman earlier, who was sarcastic and rude as hell. Do you purposely hire the most miserable, hateful SOB's on the planet? Like are these people on a waiting list for hell, so they're just getting their practice in now. Heartless, soulless individuals with terrible bedside manner.

I'm brand new to the area and when looking for the SSA, I saw these negative reviews. So I was prepared for a bad experience, but I went during a time when there were only two other people. The security guard was very friendly and searched my items, which I appreciate with everything going on these days! The SSA representative was very friendly and to the point. Just wanted to share a positive experience!

I have worked in Customer Service my entire life. I understand the limitations and setbacks that we all face in this industry. I always go into these situations open minded knowing there is only so much these people can do to help me. Just because this is a government office doesn't mean you don't have a paying customer. Pease remember that you working in the SSA are serving ME, the citizen. I understand it's a hard job, and I wasnt and won't yell or be nasty with anyone in customer service. That being said... the woman with a scar on her face, was by far the most unprofessional person I have ever worked with, and when she giggled about how I couldn't get what I needed to, I admit I saidWell thank you, I didn't realize that would make you laugh. And just walked away. I hope she reads this, remembers me, and begins to start treating people like people, not like annoyances/idiots conflicting with her busy schedule.

WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!! I showed up with my son for a replacement Social Security Card. The place was packed. Security guard asked what we were there for. He then said he would see if he could find us a seat because we can't stand in the building....HUH??????? There was only 1 seat available and 1 of us would have to stand outside in 28 degree temps until a seat open. I said I just wanted to ask a lady at the window if we had the right paper work so we knew if it was worth waiting. The guard said we could not ask questions.....that other people there had questions too and it was not fair to them. So I said....let me get this straight, we could sit here 2-3 hours, not have the right paper work and then have to come back again. His response:Thats possible Needless to say we left.

I'm a government employees myself and must admit this place is horrible far as customer service is concerned. You also have the employees telling you different information which means management is not properly updating and training employees. After a very long wait time I finally get to the window and I'm told I can't get the ss card with the children high-school Id card although it clearly states that on line and I called and a worked ok it I'm told I have to bring them in .I inform the worker that I will not removed the children out of school for this so what is another alternative she states a official letter from the school. I return with the official letter long wait time once again with the official letter this time because illinois do not give out the new driver licence but a paper one with the old one the same office will not except that form of id i have to wait 2 week for the id to come in the mail. This department is aware of how the state of Illinois operate since they operate out of Illinois they should ajust there rules. to fit the customer needs.I'm from Chicago were things are difficult and getting a ss card is not that difficult there I don't understand why they are making it so difficult maybe they want to feel important

This office is as helpful as it can be ...the government really needs to hire more help which eliminate such a long wait. The security guard is very helpful and respectful especially when so many people can be rude..he's just doing his job.

Love this office. The guard is friendly and helpful. He help make sure you push the right items when you check in so that you get to the right person. Lines are long. The government cut the hours at this location. Which is too bad. I realize that isn't the fault of the office staff. You can travel to offices in lower population areas. Which I have. I am supposed to go to the alton office, but it is so far away, I go to this one or litchfield. Litchfield has short line, and long waits.

Not only does it take hours to get waited on, they ordered a replacement medicare card for me to the wrong person. In addition, when I went back , I waited an additional three hours only to have them skip over my number and tell me I had to wait some more. I threw my number down and walked out.
